LOL reshke!
Yup.. all my Revell kits died spectacular deaths by the time i was 13. One day I'll tell yah about the demise of my Texaco Tanker. That one got me in the local paper. Hehehhehe..
Pfunk.. the biggest advantage to glassing is the durability of the finish and resistance to hanger rash. Bad side is it's heavy, and as a result A/C performance is cut, and even worse; the added weight of the structure generally overuns the engineering of the airframe.. stress related failures from sheer loads imparted on a hard landing that a ora-covered bird would rebound from often spell terminal failure for a glassed bird.
A lot of giants nowdays are engineered to handle the weight.. Ziroli kits are a good example of giants built to take the loads.. but they also require a minimum of 800 bucks worth of power plant to tote 'em around... and another 500 to 600 for retracts to try and keep it outta the dirt. a lotta dough just for the parts that are gonna be the first to the scene of the crash.
I still favor the monocote or oracover route.. sure, the glass covered birds look might fine with all those rivets and panel lines... but I build to fly.

I'm pretty impressed with the top-flite giant kits.. excellent examples of light BIG birds that are spectacular performers with a mite more affordable power and retracts. And, you can bronze-wool the covering to kill the gloss, and trick up the covering job with Krylon. Repairs are simple and straightforward.. gawd knows THATS a handy feature.

I've helped several guys glass their birds, and I saw one flight metal job. Looked real good in photos, sucked up close with the human eye. And that flight-metal stuff REALLY puts weight on because yah gotta apply it to a smooth GLASSED surface. It's just shiny super sticky duct tape.. a 3M product. Poor guy got 2 rolls of duct-tape and a one page typed instruction sheet.. for ninety freakin dollars. Then, he had to paint trim on over that.. wallah. another un-flight worthy overweight hanger queen that blistered all over it's topside when it was out in the summer sun for a coupla hours.. poor guy.. I can still hear his high-picthed shriek when he realized what was happening... "My god... my Jugs MELTING!!... melting... melting.... oh, whotta world..."
