Effective Bombing Made Easy...
« on: November 15, 2002, 01:57:01 PM »
After reading several threads about Bomber pilots dying out, I decided to revisit the method I use for level Bombing. I don't care what country you fly for. If your a bomber pilot, your my kind of person and deserve any help I can offer.

So, though I am not the top bomber pilot in AH, I have studied the process quite a bit and will share my tips. Some seem basic, but there are new pilots here, so let's give them a hand...

Bombing made easy:

1) Always take a formation. Bomb dispersal makes lone bombers almost useless. Plus you have the added firepower of 3 gun poitions for every one in a single.

2) Be patient. Plot your course, get a map of your target. If your going after a small fields fighter hangars, be sure to attack in a manner that lines you up with at least 2 of the hangars.

3) Gather info. FInd out what's been hit at the field, if anything. Know which targets are dead or alive. Check the strat page before taking of.

4) Climb, Climb, Climb. There's a reason heavy bombers fly at 30K. Because fighters are less effective and cannot always climb up to you. You will not survive anything but a complete milkrun under 20k.

5) Go level at least 1 grid (25 miles) from Target. Open bomb doors and let them bleed your airspeed.

6) Use your nose gun to spot the target at the longest range possible. Once in view, align yourself while still in the nose gun, using your rudder pedals. If over the wind layer, LINE UP IS EVERYTHING!

7) Calibrate your sight: Be sure to click your target, check your salvo, and delay. Make sure your alt. is steady. Zoom your bombsight all the way in, and 30-40 Degrees Forward. Hold the position, and set the bombsight for at least 20 seconds. (FOrget about the HTC 2 second method.)

8) ALL IMPORTANT: IF OVER WIND LAYER DO NOT CHANGE COURSE MORE THAT A FEW DEGREES! THE BOMBSIGHT TAKE THE WIND INTO EFFECT, AND TURNING THE PLANE IN BOMBSIGHT MODE THROWS OFF THE CALIBRATION! LINE UP DEAD ON TARGET BEFORE CALIBRATING!.

9) ALWAYS CHECK YOUR EXTERNAL VIEW (F3) AT ALL TIMES! EVEN ON THE BOMB RUN, IF YOU HAVE 10 SECONDS TO DROP, SPEND 7 OF THEM WATCHING FOR BANDITS.

10) Drop em, and get out, extend 25-40 miles before beginning a second pass.

REMEMBER: DO NOT SWING THE PLANE WILDLY IN BOMBSIGHT WHEN ON THE BOMB RUN...YOU WILL MISS. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN IN EXTERNAL MODE FOR BANDITS. TRY AND TAKE ESCORTS IF POSSIBLE.

Good luck.

I think the issue is you could do the same job against pretty much any target using a heavy fighter in about 1/3 the time that this tactic would take.

There is no question about that JAB. But as this is a game, different people find different things entertaining. So even though you could get the job done better and faster with a JABO, some of us still enjoy the challenge of flying a heavy.

Hell, if we all took the easy way out, the MA would be filled with LA7s, P-51's, Spits......oh wait....

Or just take a lone Lanc over a capped field and take out 5 hangers by jabo method...More fun..way more damage and funny as hell.
