Meteor Shower this morning 5:30AM EST
« on: November 18, 2002, 11:10:55 PM »
Just an FYI for those of you into it, but the Earth is passing through the tail of the Comet Tempel-Tuttle, which swings around the sun once every 33 years. The shower occurs each November, when the Earth's orbit takes it through the trail left by the comet.

The dust for this year's show actually was laid down by the comet in 1866. Most of the particles are smaller than a grain of rice but enter the atmosphere at 45 miles per second, burning up from friction.

This is upposed to be a once in a lifetime show, or once every 100 years or so.  Hope you enjoy.... the best time to view for people in North AMerica is around 5:30AM EST.  Hope you enjoy, even with the full moon, it is generally spectacular.

;)

sat out for about 45 minutes .. clear & 50 this morning at 5:15

Gotta say it was the best meteor shower I have ever seen. Sometimes 3 to 4 a minute. From very light ones to good strong long ones.

Makes one realize how small we really are in the big picture

Went out for 15 minutes with the wife, it was clear and 32 degrees at 2:30 am. We live on a mountain overlooking Reno, but even the casino's and city glare in the valley didn't make it hard to witness them. Pretty cool, although last year if anyone remembers was just as good if not better.

I made a wish on every one, lotsa fun.

Btw, did Weasel's Internet connection go out or did he respond after 2:30 not sounding like Saintaw’s evil disgruntled sappy brother?

If not, the “win the lottery” wish pry won’t come true either. Damn.

I thought it was the best one I have ever seen, some were absolutely spectacular.  Gee, Creamo, I hope two wishes to win the lottery do not cancel each other out ;)   Otherwise I will just have to contend myself with you leaving your wife to become my new Qualeh Sex Slave... :D

Too late, I opened the shades and got one up on you!

They were incredible, nothing should go that fast, it was really, really, cool. Makes me think of Apollo 13. They almost did some sky writing.
