i happened to come into the possession of a history book that was written in england in the year 1763! it's the coolest thing i own, in amazingly good condition, and i thought i would share some of the great passages from the book - it is called "annual register" and it covers everything you can imagine - it talks about the colonies, crazy remedies that all seem to give you the runs or make you retch.....
i'll try to list more later when i'm less lazy - there's even an old map of the mediterranean still in good shape at the back of the book. here's a few gems:

Put them into a strong bottle and add half a pound of good saffron, four ounces of good cinnamon, two ounces of salt of tartar, and one ounce of good opium cut into small bits.
