"even though the only hardware compatible with DirectX 9 is the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro.

Butl even ATI, the only company with a DX 9 part on the market is not allowed to ship DirectX 9 drivers and distribute its cards with DirectX 9."

Kinda narrows the choices.

GF2 Pro 64MB

Getting average of 70fps in 1024x768x32.

Plan to build new system in spring of next year. Prolly use a Barton or Hammer chip and a GeForce FX. Some PC3200 and I just might get WIN XP if I can find someone who can remove MS illigal privacy invasion stuff off of it for me. Also I hope SATA HD are actually out then, not just the interfaces on the MB.

You smell that? Do you smell that?
Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
The smell, you know that gasoline smell, smelled like victory.

Nvidia TNT2 32 meg. I'm stuck with only PCI slots, any good suggestions for a 64 meg PCI, if they still make one?

Newegg.com sells em - I got a PCI 64 GF2 mx400 made by a company called Palit while back.  Typical fps 60-80 - but the good fps only happened after loading up the detonator drivers from nvidia.  Card was 40 something bucks back then.

This setup runs a close second to the waitress I saw at Martini Blu the other night.

Athlon 1800, 512 Mb, GeForce 3 Ti200 here.   75 fps normally (monitor refresh rate limited) but in heavy smoke of fighting, can drop to high 20s.
