Saitek X45 vs Thrustmaster FLCS/TQS/RCS
« on: November 15, 2002, 04:23:13 PM »
I've found a place in Aussie that ships X45's to NZ. However they are out of stock and expect stock on Wednesday.

In the meantime a local auction site has a Thrustmaster FLCS RCS TQS combo listed with a reserve close to the Saitek price. Its also the stickworks modified version.

One of my reasons for going the X45 way was my PCs gameport is spikey. A sympton apparently common to faster machines (XP2100).

Does anyone know if the Stickworks mod irons out spiking problems on gameports? What I want to do is come Wednesday choose between cancelling my order with a bunch of dodgey Aussies and bid for the Thrustmaster, or stick with the X45 and wait for the Aussies to get their toejam together.

Go for the thrustmaster.  I had the same combo and my roomates still have the same combo with the Stickworks Digital Upgrade, and I can tell you it is a wonderful combo, and you have NO spiking.  I have a Saitek USB X45 now that I dont play that much and sold the f22/tqs/rcs to fund other interests, and the difference between the two is amazing.  The X45 is ok but its rotary knobs dont work in XP, not a problem with the stickworks, and the X45 feels overly sloppy versus the Thrustmaster gear with the digital upgrade.

Vulcan : With as much flying time you do the X45 main hat will not last you for very long at all . I used to get less than 2 to 3 months before it didn't work right , you can feel it bust ( the 7 position would pop something ) when using it even .

Been reading your posts on wanting a new stick , as much as you have to pay were you live , don't buy a saitek product , it just doesn't last even if it's a little cheaper at first .
My current Ace's High handle is spro

For the same price - go with the TM gear.  The Stickworks updated chips to nothing as far as pot performance, but it does make the stick compatible with Win2k and Windows XP.  Also nice is that you don't have to plug in the Keyboard or mouse connections, as everything works through the game port.

For what it's worth, I was using an F22/TQS/RCS through the game port on a SB Live Value on my P3 1Ghz without any problems.

You need the digital upgrade for the F-22/F-16/TQS setup to work under XP/Win2k.  I believe they still sell it at FlightSim Central.  Its very easy to install.

FSC it is, with instructions, cool. Im not thrilled I bought the setup for $80, and the chips are $60, but if I can get a hotas I can live with for a few years and not have to buy a X45 every 4 months because it's main view switch takes a toejam, so be it.

I have no problem with extra cables, but it looks like Digital for XP.

Now reassure me Exiles CH Pro Pedals I stole from him (fool!)will work with it after the digital chips in XP.

I'm thinking a USB cable, a big stick, a huge velcro pad, and a SHEEP...
