Is it my imagination, or does it seem like ABC shows more commercials in the 2nd and 3rd quarters of a MNF football game than in any other period of play?

And a second gripe: does it seem like ABC shows a commercial at every change of possession or 3rd set of downs, whichever comes first?

And a third gripe: does it seem like ABC promos its own shows for every 2 commercials it airs?

I've resorted to taping the shows I actually enjoyed watching live just so I could FF through the commercial breaks, but I always watch sports events live.  But now, with all the promo breaks ABC takes during MNF, I may just forego watching the game at all and just pick up the highlights on SportsCenter.

I think beet1e had actually timed commercial breaks with a stopwatch for American tv shows once.  It would be interesting to see how MNF commercial breaks compare to regular tv shows.

tivo is great when you hate commercials, just start viewing bout 15 - 25 minutes after start - twice on the fast forward and the commercials are gone in about 3 secs :)

I only watch MNF when the Bucs or Saints are playing.  You're right though, the commercials are awful.  Hell, they changed the clock rules to make the games go faster, mostly because of the stupid TV timeouts taking too long.  Seriously, why do you have commercials before AND after a kickoff?

I was noticing the excessive commercials in all football broadcasts this year.  Damn... just too many of them.  There's no reason to take 3 minutes off just for a change of possession.

On a separate note... those that didn't watch the game last night really missed out.  Koy Detmer was a joy to watch.  My wife and I started out routing for the 49rs (west coast thing), but found ourselves drawn to his charisma.  You could actually see a love for the game of football out there for an entire half.  It was so infectious that it spread to the rest of the team and to the 49rs too.

When he went down in the second half, it was shattering.  I've never seen all the players from one team and half from the other team go over and pat a guy on the shoulder as he sat ready to be carted off of the field.  It gave me the impression that 1 person managed to remind 150 others just what the game was about.

Yeah, I was on climb-out on a mission to go smack around your countrymen and was watching MNF when that happened.  From the original camera angle, I couldn't see his left arm.  All I saw was the defensive lineman wrapping up his ankles and Detmer falling over.  Then the DL got up and you could see Detmer's legs twitching as he's laying there on the ground.  It took ABC 3 or 4 different replays before they found the proper angle to show Detmer falling to his left, sticking his hand down to catch his fall, and dislocating his left elbow as his body weight comes crashing down to the turf.

It was one of the most gruesome things I've seen on MNF since Joe Theismann suffered multiple fractures of his leg while being sacked courtesy of Lawrence Taylor and another NY Giant player.

You think Theismann's leg was gruesome, you shoulda seen that RB from the Raiders (Napolean? He was a Navy guy) got wishboned on MNF back about 10 years ago, they only showed it twice though, it was *that* bad...

I know he was out for the rest of the season, had surgery, came back in preseason and was released from the team prior the the final roster being set.

The bull-wrestling tackle style was becoming en vogue up until Napoleon McCallum got his leg bent backwards (for those who didn't see it, imagine your knee bending 120 degrees in the opposite direction than its supposed to bend).  I had forgotten about that one, probably because it was so gruesome that it was shown only twice.  I remember the announcers saying that they wouldn't show it because they didn't want to pander to the morbid curiousity of the fans, a Politically Correct reaction to the backlash they got when they kept showing Joe Theismann's injury over and over again "for the folks at home."

Detmer was amazing. really amazing. and he shocked the 49s whith his play I think. the 49rs defence never even seemed to show up. Lots of very very bad monday night games this year.
And sorry. But maden sucks.
The hit that took down detmer was nothing. Its like he wanted to keep his arm out to watch the play as he went down or something...and landed on his elbow driving his shoulder up into the cusp.
As a guy that has broken and dislocated his shoulder at the same time. It just about killed me to see that..and they showed it 10 times...
Was a hell of a game though..
Just another excellent quarter back hiding in a leage that has been saying for years that there wherent enought good QBs.
