Events and the Mission editor

Has anyone tried integrating the built in mission editor with a special event?

I can think of a few advantages to using it:

Precise launch times.
Ability to control loadouts and location, no more 'Where are we upping from and in what'
Stop people using unhistorical loadouts. No more people sneaking bombs when they should have torps.
Use of MissionVoice channel
Waypoints - No more 'Whats the target?'

Would it work? Would it even be worth it?

Good ideas.

Snapshots would be a good place for them. TOD's are more fluid with each TOD CO making the plans.

Will see if any other CM's have any ideas.

THANKS !

I have occasionally used the Mission planner as my "organizer" for TOD events that I have CO'd.    It takes a bit more work though, and is not always necessary to use with certain TOD objectives.

They would be a help no doubt about it. IMHO I don’t think they would for everyone in the Snapshots because it is a walk on event. Often the C.O.’s are picked just minutes before the launch. I have seen some use the Mission Editor (ME) in the Snapshots with success, but most don’t have the time. The only down side was while they were busy building a mission they could not answer questions.  Kind of a scramble to throw it all together.  Now if the CM were to… but then you take away “some” of the choices the C.O. has.  It would give the CM more work to do. Though in a way less work. Players could just join the mission and stop asking questions.  Humm… :)

Might work real well for the CAP event. Certainly would work well for the TOD’s. As a C.O. in the TOD’s I would use the ME more, but I often don’t get home from work till about 30 minutes from launch. Maybe I should start asking my X.O. and flight leaders to put up a mission.

I will try to start using them more. :) Good suggestions. :)

for something like tod if one wanted to the side co could plan each squads mission out in the editor, save it, then email the saved missions text file to the individual squads to put into their htc/mission file. If the cms get real strict on roll times then the Side co could set launch time as well.

If not the individual squad cos would need to edit the mission and set launch time.

This way you could set way points and load out.

It would work for all events except snapshots because they are more "sand lot" then pre planned.

There have been problems with the mission editor in events in the past with failure to launch and wrong loadouts etc.

I dont know if this is due to mass rolls. But the side Co could stagger launch times if needed. The mission editor is nothing but a gang bang planner in the main. Its a great feature and has lots of potential but the reality is far different then what is possible.

The ability to set squad only missions would be great and the adition of mission perks provided you survive and achieve the mission goal.

Missio goal could be a series of set "check boxes" that are assigned a perk value"

ie
  • Capture a field
  • Fighter Sweep
  • Defend field for 30 min
  • CV defense

Field capture would require a member of the mission capturing the field. Only those who survive get the perks.

Fighter sweep would require the mission folk get 1 kill for all to earn mission perks. Only those who survive get them.  Individuals would get normal perks for the planes they shoot down.

Field defense would require defense of the a field for a given time period and atleast 1 member of the mission getting 1 kill. During this time period the field must not get captured and only those who survive get the mission perks.

CV defense would require that you keep the cv alive and 1 guy in the mission must earn atleast 1 kill. If the cv is sunk you get nothing.

They would need to get 1 kill in the sweep and defense missions because anyone could up a mission and tool around then land and get perks for nothing if not.

Anyway drifted off topic..........
