Night Scenario
« on: July 27, 1999, 05:12:00 AM »
Pardon me team, if this matter has been raised here before.
It has occurred to me that various current features of Sims would adapt easily to a night arena. None have adopted same, yet the potential for both fighter and Bomber Ops do bear investigating.
You mention 'immersion' often, I would think that the cat and mouse hook, not to mention the intense concentration of flying / navigating / pathfinding could offer great rewards to the serious pilot and crew.
Instrument lighting...
Parachute flares...
Searchlights...
Whaddya say guys ?
Of course, I'm really leading up to the "I wanna Lanc..." bit about here........

Keep up the good work.

Stirling idea [no pun]... The best scenario i have EVER been in was the WB night scenario with 110g2's and 190's against B17's with no escort. The concentration needed was awesome and the tracer was about the only thing [other thna dar reports] that gave away the B17 positions. I came up on a B17 with inviso otto tracer and didn't really see the plane until about D5!!!.

A night arena a few times a month as a separate arena would be a buzz...

Agreed kil old chap.

Seeing as AH won't be hobbled by 2D, one would hope that we could spend hours peering into the darkness looking for the glow of exhausts or the glint of moonlight on a canopy.

One of the events we've wanted to run for a LONG time was a night bomber intercept mission with Human staffed gunners in both the Bombers and the Night Fighters so no otto would give people away and stealth and M1 eyeballs would be key.

The obstacle to this was the limits of Dx in the past to model a night that inhibits visibility rather than makes things purple

I'm told the potential is there for D3D to make a pretty effective night..add some moonlight, a glint off some glass and some flames out the exhausts and your in business..

Night flying would be the ultimate.
I agree with the no otto.
And lighted guages would definatly be cool.
