Supposing you could target sappers to destroyed town buildings still left standing.........

One town building uses one troop.............

Supposing you could target your sappers to attempt to put sticky bombs on enemy tanks..............

Then supposing you had to target the map room to get them to go there........................ .

f6 on an m3 is the cab passenger seat with a cross hair to click onto the troop target for each one you release............

f6 in a goon would be the jump master position leaning out the jump door.............you get some cross hairs you have to keep on your intended target for each release...............

once released they make their own way there courtesy of the server.........they will even follow a moving tank as long as it is in range.  You get the kills as long as you stay alive..............

What you are proposing is already available in much more detail in World War II Online.

Hitech has clearly indicated that Aces high, while having some ground units, will primarily be a combat flight sim.

While I don't think you'll ever see that kind of thing here on AH, I do hope that in the future they offer a bit more in the way of ground action. In my opinion, what we really need, to overcome the inevitable boredom of capture the field, is a plan for a rolling front line. A series of numerous ground bases such that only the front line bases could be captured and actively spawn ground forces. Once you capture a front line base, any adjacent base could be captured. Essentially you could penetrate the front, or roll up the front line. No unrealistic sneak attacks 100's of miles into the rear of an enemy to capture a base or field that in real life could not support itself.

This would place the emphasis on supporting the ground war, however basic that ground war would be here on AH, instead of the endless capture the base.

Those of us who remember all the fun we had with the old Ripsnort large ground attack missions will be the first to tell you that the ground war aint what it used to be.

We also need a fix for the broken strategic bombing and supply features, but I'm assuming that's in the works for the next release.

Are you proposing a "scorched earth"policy for Nieman?

With the "destroy objects" comand, each CO could perhaps nominate strategic structures within his area of control but vulnerable to loss to be demolished at either frame start or stop?

If you have access to it TIlt, take a look at the discussions on this subject on the "Sicily" command BBS; we went through this subject then, but the feeling was that AH wasn't mature enough for it at the time. Has the CM's view changed?

That has been archived - Not sure how soon we can get to it to review it.

Can you explain more here ?

I have slept since sicily.

Thanks,
AW - AH Pilot 199? - 200?

I can't recollect it verbatum either  :) ....

But if I remember correctly, for Sicily, the arena settings precluded both automatic and player resupply, so if anything got hit, it remained hit for the frame.

The Allieds were very limited with respect to which bases they could launch certain vehicle types from; which meant in connection with the resuply rules they had to capture our bases not only as fast as possible but also as undamaged as possible in able to be able to use them (and the thereby available vehicles) and further their front.

So I wanted to be able to deny them usage of any base from which we performed an orderly with drawl; in line with good tactical doctrine and with the historical reality of how the Sicily campaign was fought.

In short, if I could see we were clearly going to lose a base or if we declined to defend a base to concentrate our forces then I wanted to be able to either:

_prior to frame_ I wanted the CM's to blow it up using the "destroyed objects" command

or, I wanted to be able to park Whels on a hillside in a panzer and pork a base thouroughly once we decided to vacate it

or I wanted to flatten a base with Jabo's (protect objects = off) and generaly make the Allieds march to us over ashes if we were too thin to defend a whole front.

What do you think, is this type of approach compatable or even complementary to what Tilt's trying to achieve?

I'd like to have the sappers blow bridges, bridges offend me :)

This has nothing to do with Niemen...........  AH does not support Sappers (ie targetted troops) and I do not like doing stuff that is not subject to player or command chain error........in scenario's

and its not a CM thing........it was just a thought I spawned based on another conversation.............

It just seemed that we have these iconic "P's" that the server drives to a map room (or not) and I just wondered what the game play would be like if we could direct them..... if we had to direct them............ if they had multiple uses.........if their normal use was made a tad harder.............

Plus the idea of a load of M3's launching off groups of sappers each trying to run to a set of targets and blow them up whilst under fire seemed neat........

plus it made goon drops harder which I am all for.......
