Need some help/input from any case mod people in here.
« on: December 03, 2002, 03:29:49 PM »
I am going a little off the wall with how I want to rework my case. Essentially I want to eliminate the case itself and mount my motherboard inside of a "cockpit" of sorts. I got the idea for the cockpit from seeing what Hblair did. Only I do not want my case sitting beside my setup.

So here is the idea. Imagine if you can a F4U Corsair Blue wooden setup with Cougar HOTAS control, TM RCS pedals, keyboard and monitor as the only visible items. The CD drive and floppy will be mounted where you can see them while sitting in the electrically adjustable car seat. The cables for everything in front of the monitor (j-stick setup and keyboard) will run into the monitor pedestal so they are out of the way.

Anyway if any of you case mod guys have and ideas for how to do this I would appreciate it. Also if you have any ideas for the number of fans you think it would need. I have spare 80-100mm fans sitting here and 1 200W and 2 300W power supply's as well.

There will be a picture up later tonight because I am at work and don't have my image editing stuff here.

First couple links to give some ideas:

Why not use normal comp-case and just hide it behind a wooden panel?
Easy to remove when you need to fix something.

I checked that pic: Maybe you could put the case under the seat?

Best looking case I've seen in years. If it only would have a door to cover those cd-readers and switches it would be perfect.
Text said it's ordinary case which is just covered with cherrywood panels.

Interesting Reschke. I've been thinking of doing the exact same thing for a few weeks, but I haven't decided if I want to put the PC inside the base or inside the console. I am gonna put it outa the way though, I know that.

You might consider using a late model firebird/trans am seat, the reason I say that is they also have an up/down adjustment in the front of the seat which would let you adjust for comfort with your pedals.

Ya'll need to figure a way to tie the seat movement into the stick controls.

I think it'd be funny as hell to hear HB cry out over the comm as he's flung from his simpit while doing a negative "G" push over. :D

I had not thought of that hblair and now that you mention it a adjustment like that would be nice instead of always having to sit flat. I think I am going for the mount of the system inside of the monitor pedestal though and at first I wanted to put the whole case in there. But then I go to thinking about heat issues and how I would cool the case off. So that is why I am leaning toward removing the components and putting fans in the pedestal to move air all around the components.

I wanted to get this done before Christmas but that is probably not going to happen. So now I am looking at a January finish time. I still need to find the seat and finalize the design.
