This 'contest' is a terrible idea.
I think the many reasons have been well catalogued by now so I'll only add one more thought.
This marks the beginning of the end of target capture gameplay.
Why would anyone bother to fly near a field with ack and Flak panzers all around it when they can stand off and pick off wounded pigeons? Why fly a goon? Why Jabo a base? Why put yourself in any risk? Just hover high or wait till a field is vulchable and then swoop in for a kill or two before lunch.
My squad and I have lost count of the number of times we have been close to capturting a base and asked for help from other players (Knights) to finish the job. We rarely get much of a hand. The same goes for when we are in a last-ditch defense of a base. This is usually because there's a vulch-fest going on somewhere. This idea will only amplify and aggravate that trend.
Pretty stupid, poorly considered decision. If one takes only a casual view of the likely consequences it becomes immediately apparent that gameplay will suffer - greatly. HTC has already killed the bomber model. Now he may be inadvertantly trying to pork the base capture theme.
Here's what I suggest. The best way to reverse a poorly conceived idea is to bring the consequences to a greater, more illogical and ridiculous level than was ever considered.
THE PLAN
Whenever you find a top 15 pilot on the map, give a call to everyone else on the country channel and give out their location so we can hunt them down and skewer them! Once located, everyone on opposing teams should converge on that sector and annhilate the offending pilot with prejudice
Hey, that's what they're trying to do to use to gain that top spot so we should be no different. Besides, efforts to shoot down enemy aces were coordinated in some theaters during the war...lets emulate that strategy and neutralize these folks.
When a Top 15 pilot drops to a bottom 15 through such a merciless slaughter the weakness of the contest will be fully revealed to those who imagine themselves worthy of it.
Troopers...its time to dose out a little humility..and HTC has given us the perfect excuse and motivation to get it done. Hey, maybe it is an excellent idea after all?
