You are killing GVs in fighter mode.  You don't get credit for this.  You only get credit for killing aircraft in fighter mode.  When you go after GVs, do it in Attack mode.

Humm, that's true, yesterday I killed 14 GVs that were attacking our field.  So, it means that the other 3 kills(vs planes) I was talking about were made as an attacker.  That would explain everything.

But how you know that?  It's not reflecting on score page.  Anyway, if they are not even count as kills, why would we get the message that we landed 8 kills then 6 kills?  It's useless and misleading.  You see I was getting really pissed at this scoring technic by not knowing that fact.  I swear I was so pissed that I was about to send an e-mail to close my account.  Now, I'll just cool down and see the behaviour of everyone.  If the game is generating even less 6 calls...

Anyway, thank you for this input!

Life is a squeak and then I die! :)

But it is in your STAT page.  This page tell what kinds of planes and GVs you have killed, and what you killed them with.  If there is any difference between your total # of kills on your STAT page and your SCORE page, it because you killed a GV in fighter mode, or got kills as a ship gunner or in your chute.

The stat page, IMO, is more fun and interesting than the score page.  I keep track of how I do in individual planes more than anything else.

I fly most of sorties in attack-mode for this very reason.  I can't resist going after GVs either!

well.... one thing is for sure... Drex or dmf won't be in the (lol) "shootout" with all these heroes and... either one of em could beat the "winner" 10 out of ten.

This 'contest' is a terrible idea.
I think the many reasons have been well catalogued by now so I'll only add one more thought.

This marks the beginning of the end of target capture gameplay.
Why would anyone bother to fly near a field with ack and Flak panzers all around it when they can stand off and pick off wounded pigeons?  Why fly a goon?  Why Jabo a base?  Why put yourself in any risk?  Just hover high or wait till a field is vulchable and then swoop in for a kill or two before lunch.

My squad and I have lost count of the number of times we have been close to capturting a base and asked for help from other players (Knights) to finish the job.  We rarely get much of a hand.  The same goes for when we are in a last-ditch defense of a base.  This is usually because there's a vulch-fest going on somewhere.  This idea will only amplify and aggravate that trend.

Pretty stupid, poorly considered decision.  If one takes only a casual view of the likely consequences it becomes immediately apparent that gameplay will suffer - greatly.  HTC has already killed the bomber model.  Now he may be inadvertantly trying to pork the base capture theme.

Here's what I suggest.  The best way to reverse a poorly conceived idea is to bring the consequences to a greater, more illogical and ridiculous level than was ever considered.

THE PLAN
Whenever you find a top 15 pilot on the map, give a call to everyone else on the country channel and give out their location so we can hunt them down and skewer them!  Once located, everyone on opposing teams should converge on that sector and annhilate the offending pilot with prejudice

Hey, that's what they're trying to do to use to gain that top spot so we should be no different.  Besides, efforts to shoot down enemy aces were coordinated in some theaters during the war...lets emulate that strategy and neutralize these folks.

When a Top 15 pilot drops to a bottom 15 through such a merciless slaughter the weakness of the contest will be fully revealed to those who imagine themselves worthy of it.

Troopers...its time to dose out a little humility..and HTC has given us the perfect excuse and motivation to get it done.  Hey, maybe it is an excellent idea after all? ;)

if you look at the top 15 in a few of the tours some of them have flown only a few sorties but flown them well, whereas others have flown sometimes 10x the sorties or 3x the time online and maintained a similar position in the ranking.

Ive always been confused by the score system, especially for the overall score.

sometimes there are guys way above others in fighter and attack rank but the other guy has more captures or does well in another category and beats them overall.

to this day i struggle to work out how it ends up the way it does.

I often  wonder about what flying a goon has to do with being a proficient bomber pilot.  The M3, is a bit hazier - it at least has a gun, but wonder about it as well.

A separate category for captures, and resupply work (which till now goes without any real reward), would take this segment out of categories where it just doesn't fit well.

At Warbirds you get 1 month free if you shoot down Wildbill 1vs1. At least this was the case some time ago, don't know if they still offer this.

Just scanned some of this mess, three quick points:

1.  Joyful, score doesn't update right away, the server updates it every so often.  So if you check it constantly, wait awhile 1st and then relog to check it.  It won't update *at all* until you at least relog.  Also, killing GVs in fighter mode is real bad for fighter score (except maybe hit percentage).

2.  Field guns and 5" guns ARE NOT used in calculating rank.  The best someone can hope to do in these things is gain .0138 perks and ruin someone elses fight.

3.  You guys really think that even 10% of the guys going for this are doing it for the money?  100+ hours for 50 bucks?  The reason to do it is competition, plain and simple.  Guys that have been playing for 3 years and that have done it all in AH (and then some) have a new goal to shoot for.  Some of these people were losing interest, now they are having a lot of fun with this.  Is that so bad?  Is it bad because they are not playing the way you play?
