Hardware problem, put your heads together..
« on: December 04, 2002, 01:48:57 PM »
I have a USB MS precision pro stick with USB foot pedals. Every now and then, while flying aces high, with no warning, game locks up for several seconds, then dumps me to desktop.

The games not the problem though, I'm thinking it locks up because my stick gets "unrecognized" or whatever you call it by windows. I think this because whenever I go back into AH my stick and pedals no longer work at all. I have to reboot my PC and all is fine til it happens again. Over a 3 hour session this happens 1-4 times. Rebooting the PC is the only cure.

BTW, I had this problem before I had the USB pedals. When it was just the USB precision pro stick, I'd get the same thing.

What is causing this problem? A conflict or what?

Help~!

check your IRQ's and make sure the USB controller IRQ isn't sharing it with something else

Do you have another stick you could use for a day or so to isolate the MS stick as the source of the problem?  You might try re-installing DirectX (if the installer will let you do so).

If u are using a soundblaster sound card u have to check ur sound hardware acceleration.

Open Dxdiag and go to the sound tab. Reduse the
HARDWARE ACCELERATION to 75 % like the picture shows.

Hb, is your stick USB as well?  Both me and Roper have tried to use the MS P. P. USB stick, but it repeatedly gives "you're moving the stick too rapidly" -- even though it happens as you gently move the stick.  And yes, the stick has been calibrated - repeatedly.

I think MS has a driver problem.

Hblair, buy a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB stick.  It's a decent stick and Saitek is currrently selling them for $29.95.  At worst, you'll discover the MS drivers are porked.  At best, you'll have an inexpensive stick you like.

Hey, both me and Hitech can't be wrong about Saitek Cyborg 3d Gold USB. :)

Check you system info>start up/running programs and switch off all power checking/preserving programs..ensure you do not have two virus checkers running together (one loaded by BIOS another on win start)

Switch task scheduler/s off...........

If you play other heavily graphic games re boot between them and AH to re fresh Direct X registry settings.

........and what freeze said.

Saitek Cyborg is the best value for money stick except the throttle/base button relationship is very unergonomic......... if they just reversed the base 180 degrees it would be much better IMO

Thanks for all the replies guys. I went into the dx thingy and bumped the sound acceleration down one notch (it was all the way up). I didn't have one lock up and I flew for 3+ hours. I think that might have been it. We'll know for sure after a few more days. Thanks a lot fellas. I was pretty sure you fellas had the answer. :)

WHat chipset are you using? Is it  VIA chipset? I was having some USB issues with my KT-133A motherboard . If you do have VIA chipset, try downloading the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers. That helped me.

Thanks for the input guys. I've still got the problem. It crashed on me several times yesterday. I'm gonna format and reload tonight, which I need to do anyway. Then I'll try to tackle this annoying problem if it's still there.
