Cash Contest
« on: December 09, 2002, 12:49:52 PM »
With all respect due to HiTech and Crew, does anyone think the new contest is a good idea, or is it me and my more-cantankerous-than-usual self, as of late? I don't like it, and it's probably the only thing HTC has done that I disagree with...

It seems to me, that now more than ever, there has been a real increase in running (meaning, not rtbing, but avoiding a co alt engagement) , and ..how can I put this gently..ganging, than usual. Maybe it's me, as I mentioned earlier, but there seem to be less and less people willing to mix it up 1-1. Any ideas how we can encourage people to learn ACM /how to fight individually instead of waiting for the inevitable gang-a-roo?

One question.....

How many engagements during WWII involved all the planes just waiting around while one of their guys fought one of the bad guys 1v1?

If you are "expecting" 1v1's in the MA then you're dreaming.  My suggestion would be to visit the DA if you want to duel in a 1v1 without someone jumping in.  Expecting someone to not jump into a fight in the MA is a pipe dream.

Depends on who you chose to fly with. Lately I've been just flying cover for people that are engaged 1v1, I've see others do the same. Rare as it is, it DOES happen.

If you don't follow the GB hords you can still find good 1v1's but if you're a sco-ho then searching for that fun 1v1 is counter productive to rank advancement. Another bad effect of the 'game the score contest" IMO.

When I see an engagement, I call out on range channel if he needs help. If he doesnt, I hover till he does, or gets the kill. If he asks, then I jump in.

Quite frankly, I see no problem in watching a fight and letting the dude get his kill, besides, this is also called "loose Goose," and it's a practiced form of ACM.

I choose not to, and although I am usually ranked in the low-mid 1000's and am only average-on my BEST campaign-I don't need to gang anyone to get a victory. those that do, need to learn how to fly so they can handle their own fights.

ACM and the MA are a bad mix.  Especially energy fighting.  A good way to survive, a bad way to get kills.  I've lost track of the number of times I've engaged someone, worked thier E down, only to have some 'friendly' spit snatch the kill while I'm setting up for the coup de grace.  As much as it bugs me, it's the way things work.

Slings comment is a generalization, which means there will always be exceptions.

ugh, too true.  I have this mental clock in my head that starts ticking down after I first engage a bandit until some dweeb comes roaring in to take advantage of the set-up I was making for myself.  I guess you really can't begrudge someone a kill, but "loose Goose" would be nice to see sometime.
