Live right in Phoenix, 2 minutes from my house the speed limit is 65 through town on the 51 freeway, 75 when you get on the interstate. Other states have 75 limit too, so you are misinformed.

Your only argument to a ban on alcohol is an attack on our speed limit?

I'm not wrong Nuke..these guys must be.

I'm not attacking US speed limits..I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy in your comment that the UK is a socialist state in which everything dangerous should be banned.  You cannot drive over 75mph on rural highways.  Why?  Because your government has determined the maximum speed at which its citizens are safe..that's all, and according to your "thumping chest, I'm a free American" logic that is socialism.  Do I have to explain everything Nuke?

Where do you see that I'm trying to ban alcohol?

I didnt say you where wrong, I said misinformed, just as I didnt say a socialist state should ban everything dangerous, I said mis-used.

And America is a Republic, which means we are ruled by law. We happen to put speed limits on our roads, by law.

We also happen to have a right to bear arms.

I don't  thump my chest and I dont't see any other Americans doing that either...... you must see that in the movies?

You roll your eyes a lot, you okay?

Why is any law a law?

We have laws, as most countries do.

We have speed limits for saftey on the roads, just like we can't fire warning shots over people's heads with our guns.

We don't ban driving just  because driving kills some people.

I'm not for a ban on alcohol in the US, just in the UK.

I want the UK to be consistant with their bannings.

You simply cannot stick to one argument can you...you take snippets of one argument and add them to others.

Again, all I am doing was showing how hypocrital YOU are.  You seem to think that the UK is a socilist country because they ban things..thereby infringing on the rights of their citizens.  Your government bans lots of stuff to "protect you" but somehow that is better than the UK because you have a Republic and that the country has laws like anyone else?

What a crock!

Nuke why this obsession about the UK?

curval... the speed limit is 70-75 in California.. the way they got the 55 limit in was by telling us that it would save fuel and that we were in a gas crisis...  The way they tried to keep it after the "crisis" was over was by issuing proclamations from our version of the "home office" about how many lives were saved... we told em to go pound sand and take your nanny crap elsewhere (england?)... any 55 limits left are simply holdovers from the old federal mandate.   The law was hated by allmost everyone and totally disregarded... if fostered a large disrespect for the law..

Thrila, nothing against the UK.

Just against people from there ( hhmmmm Beet1le) that seem to be transfixed with America and our gun laws.

LOL..anytime you resort to insults you have lost.  Just stick to one point and I'll argue with you.  You need to have some consistency in your arguments..much like you accuse the UK of not having when it comes to their laws.

lazs...I'm not arguing that speeds should be reduced or increased...I'm only using it as an example of a governmental control over Americans.  I could have used the archaic drug laws that you have in the US (which are so incredibly inconsistent from State to State that it is laughable).  Nuke is implying that laws in the UK are socialist ones which try and limit the freedom of its citizens..he goes on to state that the UK should be consistent in its laws.  I find his arguments decidedly hypocritical.

curval... and i am explaing the back door way that the law was enacted and the failure of it.  It was a form of martial law... and emergency law that was disliked by all and repealed as soon as possible... the feds withheld funding (they kept the states own monies and wouldn't give em back) if the states didn't buckle under.

I will admit tho that the U.S. is getting more effeminate every day.. more and more politicians that are as devoid of thought as say... beetle.. are coming up with "feel good" legeslation that will appeal to the woman (and womanly man0 voter.   They want to appear to be doing something without doing any of the real work.

I would love to end womens sufferage.

Funny but I don't see one Beet1e post in here.  I also cannot find a thread started by Beet1e regarding gun laws, or trying to snipe at Americans in any way in the last 5 or 6 pages of threads in the O'Club.  There is one wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving fairly recently (page 5 or 6, I think), but that is about it.

Mr. Nuke is once again being a hypocrite accusing Beet1e of being transfixed by the gun issue.  I'd say it was Nuke would won't drop it now.
