Pros & Cons of Rank Contest
« on: December 08, 2002, 01:34:08 PM »
From what I see...

Pros

-You can get paid for a hobby
-Brings buffs back to the MA (this could be seen as a con)
-In some cases causes people to fight, rather than run

Cons

-More 30+ Typhoon missions, when the same thing could be acomplished by 2 planes
-Nothing to stop someone from starting a second account (paying 30$/month) then getting in the top 15, and making an easy 20 bucks
-HQ under constant attack, radar is on less often
-People don't wana deack b/c it will ruin their hit %
-People only wana cherry pick, to safeguard their K/D
-Less 1 vs. 1s
-More GV feild sneaks (could be a pro or con)
-People have somewhat of a reason to be mad when being killed -> more channel 1 nonsense
-People who are in the top 15 really aren't the best **cough** Gpreddy
-Less furballs, just either vulching, or being vulched

Anything i've missed? This is just what I have seen.....don't like the new system much.

A pro after a period of time is the "new" scoremongers will learn that..

A - They suck at it
B - It replaces fun with anger and a rubber room
C - They're half way decent at it but see item B
D - A combination of the above

Been there, done that thank you.

That and if I get 1.2 seperation on the three chasing, I have to reverse and go back in..

For the fight :)

Rule #2 of online games:  Players in general will do what they feel is "best" or "fastest" regardless of the level of fun involved.  Players will also argue against anything which may threaten the "best" even if it will in the end add to thier fun.   A game usually must force fun down it's players throats, rather than let them look for it themselves.  Many players will not willingly leaving the "best" path, even if it means getting bored and quitting.

I observed something truly sad yesterday.

We were capturing a base, and it was ready with the goon only a few minutes out.No fighters even close to getting in the sector. All FH's were dead, all acks were dead,VH dead, had a 10 plane cap, with a few FP's of ours there also.

To get to the point,a player who is in the running to win was one of the GVs...and was sitting point blank shooting all his ammo into a bomber hanger even as the goon approached to raise his hit percentage.

I saw that. I was the La7 that took off and killed the P38 hitting the town and then I was forced to land at the town becuase there were four osties on the field. When I checked back to see if the vh was up there was this Ostie blasting away at a bomber hangar. I filmed it checked his id and made a note to kill him many times later.

I'm glad I'm not paying for these "prizes" since I dropped my subscription.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

IMHO, this encourages people to play a lot.  Those who can be online several hours a day for many days a week are the only ones with a chance at scoring any cash.  Those of us with responsibilities outside of the game will never have a chance at this.

Then again, I'm a rook and I couldn't care less about my score - money or no.
