the hardware zindoze manager will show 9800 and it gain some extra frames

you will need   catalist 3.2 driver and patched ati2mtag.sys

Catalyst driver - more achievement by the R350 Treiberfpad

Update: To 14.03.03 was published the new Catalyst of 3,2 drivers by ATi. This thereupon of us examines.

The newest Catalyst driver offers support for the R350 and RV350. by the modification of the ati2mtag.sys can one the R350 driver path on the R300 use. Our test system consisted of a Radeon 9700 pro and a Athlon XP 1800+ under Windows XP + SP1. In the control panel one can see the difference, however I could not determine any optical differences with the FSAA or with anisotrophen filters. This file is only for Windows XP and/or. Windows 2000 and the Radeon 9700/pro!!! Other Patches gibts here .

Which was changed

The ati2mtag.sys was modified, file 1 is the original file, file 2 the modified:

// (carriage return character) checksum
differences RK OFFSET 148
file1 = 7
file2 = F

// (carriage return character) 44ê ton of 48ê (Radeon 9700 - > Radeon 9800)
differences RK OFFSET 67844
file1 = 44
file2 = 48
// (carriage return character) 44ê ton of 48ê (Radeon 9700 - > Radeon 9800)
differences RK OFFSET 67898
file1 = 44
file2 = 48
// (carriage return character) 48ê ton of 44ê (Radeon 9800 - > Radeon 9700)
differences RK OFFSET 67910
file1 = 48
file2 = 44
// (carriage return character) 44ê ton of 48ê (Radeon 9700 - > Radeon 9800)
differences RK OFFSET 6E994
file1 = 44
file2 = 48
// (carriage return character) 44ê ton of 48ê (Radeon 9700 - > Radeon 9800)
differences RK OFFSET 6EA0C
file1 = 44
file2 = 48
// (carriage return character) 44ê ton of 48ê (Radeon 9700 - > Radeon 9800)
differences RK OFFSET 6EACC
file1 = 44
file2 = 48
// (carriage return character) 48ê ton of 44ê (Radeon 9800 - > Radeon 9700)
differences RK OFFSET 6EFDC
file1 = 48
file2 = 44
// (carriage return character) 48ê ton of 44ê (Radeon 9800 - > Radeon 9700)
differences RK OFFSET 6F09C
file1 = 48
file2 = 44

Installation

deinstallieren the old drivers
install the Catalyst of 3,2 drivers
delete the ati2mtag.sy _ from the \ATI\support\wxp-w2k-radeon-7-84-03022å1-008040c-efg\2KXP_INF\B_08037 listing and copy you the modifizirte ati2mtag.sys (unpack before!) inside
now you install the drivers again by means of actualization and not with the setup.exe

Thanks..

I heard over at  http://www.rage3d.com that

"The hack you're refering to just allows a 9700 to use driver paths currently intended for the 9800. It'll be available by default for the 9700 in the next driver set."

How do you find the VPU and RAM clock speeds?
Is it in the ATI control panel?
