Rotating Maps For Combat Theatre
« on: December 02, 2002, 10:48:23 AM »
I believe this would add to the numbers and fun in the CT...There are many very good maps/setups in the CT and perhaps it's time to assemble them for rotation. Here is a chronological,semi-branching idea for a setup.

Start with say..The Battle of France(1940), if the Axis wins the reset, off we go to...

The Battle of Britain.(If the Axis loses The Battle of France,we start over.)If England loses BoB reset, they are knocked out of the war...Could add a few strats like if Germany allows Berlin to be bombed down to 0%,Goering is thrown in the cooler and and England stays in the war.

After BoB,we go to(picture Bob Barker....)..Finland!!!(Axis vs USSR)...Where you and your wingmates will enjoy the hospitality of the invading Soviet Army.

Then would be Littlehammer(Germans vs Britain*)

Then Crete (1941Greece)..(Germans vs Britain*)

Then Barrbarossa(1941) for three maps...**

*if still in war

**If the Germans win a map reset, they advance to the next map.If they win all three,USSR is knocked out of the war and Germany is master of Europe!!!(if England is captured). If they lose one,it's off to...

Africa*(Britain&USA)...Where if the Germans win, they advance to...(if they lose Africa...Go to PAC)

Malta*(Britain)...Then OTW...

Pacific Theatre...have say 2 maps,if IJN wins them both, USA is knocked out of the Pacific. If IJN loses 1,then off to...

USSR 1942*(2 maps, first side to win two resets in a row wins the war.If Germany loses,we go back to 1940 France. If they win USSR is knocked out of war...If Axis wins first map,but loses second,we go back to previous map until we have a winner)...Next..

Midway...Sink the CV's!..Last side to still have a CV wins!(If USA loses, they are knocked out of PAC)...and then..

France 1944(USA & Britain*)..if the Allies lose, they are tossed back out to sea and Axis wins the war.If the Allies win map, they procede to the Battle of Germany map.Allies win,the war is won!..If Axis wins,we go back to previous map.Back and forth we go until we have a winner!

Japan(1945)(USA* vs IJN)...Invasion of Japan...American task force launches on Japan.Americans win if they get reset.Japan wins if they toss them back to the sea.

Anyone see why we couldn't have something like this?..And what are your thoughts?

Isnt that the gist of what CAP is?  I dont know because I am at work during CAP's normal time, but check it out SirLoin.  I know they do a branching campaign that follows a chronological timeline and uses different maps.

A very well thought out idea..Not sure how easy it would be to implement though.

half the fun in the CT is the fact there is no reset.  Reset also tends to crash the arena so ixnae on the rotatae

Base capture as the reason to play should stay in the MA.

Agreed.  Leave the war to the MA.

Wrong Forum, not practial, Base capture is whats it's all about, it is the whole aspect that brings the battle together, I know some of you cant stand having your fighter action interupted by GV's Ship's bomber ect, but it is a part of the game and deserves to be incluided. Scripting the CT set up would be to ridigid and not very fun from a design aspect, it would also not allow for plane set diviristy, and as our past experances have shown numbers actualy decline if a set up is repeated to often or ran to long.

I disagree..Immersion is what it's all about.

I have to admit that's what I pictured when CT was first announced available.

People voluntarily splitting sides, organizing themselves by roles... bomber squads, fighter squads... large scale, historic battles.. I sort of imagined a regular arena with the integrity of Scenarios and Special events.

However, while CT numbers are slowly rising, still, 40~50 people is not quite enough to bring on a "war" that is different from MA(a more 'realistic', 'immersive' war environment).

 ...

Still, some of the terrains are adequate for "scenario-style" objectives. One such example is Malta.
