That's only one description, YEAGER is correct, "bore" in this context refers to diameter.
It's also a relative term. A 410 shotgun is "small bore" while a ten guage shotgun is "big bore" as in "big bore" game hunting.
Then there's other descriptions which refer to bore as in "smooth bore", meaning without rifling.
