How about a basic automated system of ATC?  One thing that always bugged me about WB is all the friendly aircraft flying through each other on the runway.

Even a simple text message would be good.  That'd be awesome to get the bulk of the pilots flying organized and appropriate landing patterns and/or taking off with some semblence of order.

Yeah, enable collisions between friendlies! That would make it more exciting!

Instead of ATC (dream on), how about the ac's just start on the parking area, instead of lined up...like in the good 'ol days...

I don't see how it'd be that hard.  A simple text message?  "ivedog you are cleared to land runway 24"

Anything would help.  I'm just tired to seeing friendly aircraft landing on each other or rolling right through each other.

Or maybe it's best left for if/when they ever get a historical-type arena going.

And see the people complain on the channel that they were wasted by "xxxx" of their own color?

The reason it is the way is in WB is because its the most logical thing to do business-wise. Same for killshooter. It keeps the masses happy, while sacrificing only a small aspect of realism. How many times have you rolled, lifted tail, and been shocked to see someone coming right at you who also just lifted tail to find you there, and thought "whew! that could have been a mess!". I'd personally not waste my money in that manner. I'd rather be vultched by a bandit.

And I agree, ATC is a dream.

we as the Tangmere Squadron flew a mission on Warbirds from F16 to 6 then on to Purp city...the mission was a great sucess all neatly packed in formation with fighter escort.....but what bugs me is how we are on top of one another on the runway before the mission started i prefer to see a set start location (little bays along the small taxi ways) as we taxi to the runway one behind the other (this worked on Microprose Flying Fortress, cant see why it cant work on Wbs or Aces high) then turn on to the runway for launch while we circle the base to wait for the others to get airbourne....i agree we need to make even the smallest of ideas to be smarten up

Biggest problem with this (sorry if I'm repeating) is where the aircraft "spawn" on the runway. 20 guys all decide to launch at once, there's simply no place to put 'em all safely in a runway the size of what we use.

Now...if you had a bunch of parked "dummy" aiplanes and you had to run out to 'em, that might be doable. The plane would magically turn into your selection when you reached the cockpit, but would otherwise simply look like the "default" airplane until then. Be good targets for strafing as well. Might be able to work that into the strat system, where each field had a limited number of parked aircraft (by size). Until a plane is "moved" from it's parking spot, another pilot couldn't use that slot. As soon as you were clear of that area, another "dummy" plane would appear and could be usable.

Make the rebuild time for the parked aircraft quicker than structures, but still tied to the strat system (whatever that is) in some way. Wouldn't exactly stop people from flying at a field, just slow 'em down a bit and make supression an actual tactic, unlike "Brand W".

Combine em All,

You go to the Taxi Area, Choose a Plane, and Roll to the Runway.

Enemy Aircraft can strafe the taxi area, to limit the number of aircraft cabable of spawning at a particular airfield.

Make that Auto ATC also and Auto DAR Operator.

I would be in favor of No Killshooter and Freindly Collisions.

"ATC is a dream"

Well, yeah... for WarBirds.  But isn't this a whole new sim?  No reason to settle for what can and can't be done if the sim isn't even Beta yet.

We have to take off our "WarBirds Goggles" and see things from a different perspective here, in my opinion.  Brainstorm.

"How many times have you rolled, lifted tail, and been shocked to see someone coming right at you who also just lifted tail to find you there, and thought 'whew! that could have been a mess!'"

It SHOULD be a mess.  That's the only thing that would get people taxiing, taking off, and landing in a more realistic manner.

I'll admit I never fly in the WB Main (HA for me), but do you really think that your own country's airfield would be a constant mess of aircraft crashing into each other?

I'm going against my own advice here and using WarBirds as an example, but the WB H.A. has been running for several weeks now with killshooter OFF...  no major problems that I'm aware of.  We have to start giving ourselves some credit.

Look at old War Films the British didnt use fields they had large grass fields to take off on. New idea water tower to make fields muddy take off harder. Germans did the same the good ole US made runways on sandy islands.
