The 1937 model was the last model with the "small" tail and other features. 1938 was a new line plus the first 4 place model.
1938 with a Warner engine was the 24J, 1939 24W9, 1940 24W40, 1941 24W41. None built during the war for civilians, then; 1946 24W46. The one pictured has the larger vertical tail so it has to at least be post 1937. I have an extensive collection of Fairchild stuff. Any old photos anyone is willing to get rid of, let me know.

You can find the photo and story at:Fairchild 24 crash

LOL, sounds familure doesnt it????

I screwed up that ID though. The tail is an optical illusion and is a small tail. I also noticed that the windshild is the three piece and a full lengh cowling. That cowling was only available on one model which was the 1936 24-C8E. The tail nav light was also last available up on top on this model.

Anyway;
The plane photographed is:

1936 Fairchild 24-C8E SN# 2823
NS2813 "N Number"
