What engine does our 109F4 have?
« on: December 14, 2002, 12:44:39 PM »
Relatively simple question that I've been wondering.  Saw it in a post on WW2O forums and wondered if we have the DB601H or the DB601E?  S!

Could you point me to this discussion please ?

THe only difference between the 109F-2 and F-4 is the engine DB601N for the F-2 and DB601E for the F-4.
Contrary to what has been written in many books, the armament is not a difference point according to the Manuals, MG151 or MG151/20 could be found in either the F-2 or F-4 and does imply a change in designation.

Could you post the following there :

-------------------------------------------------------
First of all there were two main group of Friedrich the F-1/F-2 equiped with the DB601N and the later F-3/F-4 equiped with the DB601E.

The first F-1s rolled out of MttGmbH Regensburg in October 1940 and production ended there in february 1941

The F-2 got produced in october 1940 by AGO, and production was ended in August 1941 at the Arado factory.

F-4 production began at WNF a factory in May 1941 and ended in Erla factory in May 1942.

The F-1/F-3 were originaly equiped with the MG/FF-M motor canon, and the F-2/F-4 with the MG151 in either 15mm or 20mm caliber. The armament manual is quite clear about it, as mounting of a 15 or 20mm MG151 is detailled for BOTH DB601N and DB601E.

Moreover number of rounds is not 150 as stated in most books but 200 for 15mm AND 20mm, reference is again the 109F armament manual.

Wouldn't it be absolutely amazing if we were required to foot note all that is quoted in here!

;)
I regret doing business with TD Computer Systems.

I'd post it over there, but I don't have an account.  It's interesting that you note the F4 had a 200 round loadout as opposed to 150.  If so, this would benefit the 109's here greatly.

It was pretty much discussed that the Bf109G-2 also had 200 rounds of 20mms, not 150. Nobody gave a counter evidence opposed to the "200 round" sources.

I think I can find the link...

 ah-ha.. found it..

And for the 109F-2/F-4 (from the 109F armament manual).
