Mand, have you tried running it with no sound card installed at all, onboard sound disabled and the squad folder totally deleted/empty?

I'm thinking you want to "narrow the field" by eliminating any possibility of sound or squad folder being the cause.

Current 4N1 (now named Hyperion)  are v445 http://ftp://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/4in1/VIAHyperion4in1445v.exe

Do you have CTD also when offline ?
Try to replay CTD film just to test.

I've the same Realtek RTL8139 with XP drivers and a geforce3 like you I don't think they cause CTD.

Mandoble......get rid of the 40.72 drivers and go back to the 30.82s'.  The 40.72 drivers have many issues and cause a lot of problems.  The 40.72  drivers were released to soon because  of the release of WinXP and the Radeon9700.  I have GF4Ti4600 and the 40.72 caused lots of problems including CTDs'

Mandoble, I had a cmedia card (generic) 6 channel with the same chip and never had a problem with it (in fact I still have it).  Have you hit http://www.driverguide.com for an ancient driver or two?  I would try a really old one and see if that works.  When I tried a newer driver with that chipset, I would get CTDs and soft resets whenever certain sounds would come up (flak was a real killer).

The login at driver guide is username: drivers password: all

I would try an old one.  See if it works.

I bet you have two sound problems, those ac97s tend to suck, and the cmedia has a personallity too (great sounding card though).  Got an old turtle beach laying around?

Yeah, missed that one!

I have a GeF2GTS and NONE of the 40 series drivers I tried worked. All sorts of crashes.

I went back to 30.82's and it works smoothly with great color.

I'd look into that one too.

Thanks for the replies mates.
Hajo, I used normaly 30.82, CTDs were present as frequent as with 4072.

straffo, CTDs offline also

Toad, I tried that, but AH gives me an error message and refuses to start without a sound device.

ergRTC, I'll try, but I doubt the problem is on the audio drivers, similar problem was present with C-Media disabled and SB Audiby plugged.

1.11 640x480 crash to desktop bug

We've found a problem with 1.11 that is causing people running in 640x480 to crash to desktop upon entering an arena. If you are experiencing this problem, you can alleviate it by going into the video options on the main menu and selecting a different resolution such as 800x600. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Turbot, it is running 1280x1024x32bpp, and the problem was present prior to 1.11 version.

BTW, today I was talking with Wespe about AH stability, for my surprise he suffers exactly the same behaviour. Several crashes followed by several resets and the AH becomes stable. At the same time someone asked by general CH about a problem causing his AH to exit to desktop without warning/error, just the same effect again.

You are not going to believe me, but to work around the problem I do the next:
Switch on computer
starts AH (offline mode) and wait about 5 minutes until CTD.
Then I do a soft reset and start AH again, most of the times, AH keeps stable for hours this way.

I've had some quirky stability issues using the Saitek USB action pad (which I use for FPS) and other game controllers (particularly USB). Nothing terminal (once fully patched), but some initial funkiness that eventually seems to settle out. I don't know about the X36, but...

The VIA chipset also seems to have a history of USB issues, and there are a variety of patches (lateste 4in1 drivers and some additional via drivers) to help address these issues. Again, the Saitek action pad seems overly sensitive to these issues. You might want to try the CH setup exclusively a few times, or if it's a Via chipset (which I think it is), go to VIA and run all the avail. patches beyond the 4in1). Have you given the system a full enema lately? Try flushing down to FDISK or Format C and rebuild.

I didn't read this whole thread, but.. you using custom sounds Mandoble?

If so, try playing with the default sounds that come from HTC.
