Yeah, actually I DO like it.

However, I can see a potential problem in the whirling, swirling furballs without it.

You do often lose site of a bogey under the nose while maneuvering and there is the possibility of a friendly getting in between you and the bad guy during this time.

In particular, if you're chasing say an La-7, lose him in one of his high-g maneuvers and then reacquire moments later.... except that it turns out that a friendly La-7 slipped in between ya.... KILLSHOOTER!

That's why I like the variable icon size option. I've got them at 12 and would use smaller if I could read friendly names.. but I can't read smaller text. I don't give a fig about enemy plane type... so reading that doesn''t bug me.

How about variable icon sizes for enemy and friend as separate choices? Then I can shrink the bad guys all the way to the minimum and leave friends at 12.

My .02.

Put exactly that in another thread...I think in the frontal view one. I'd like to see this as a feature for every plane.  :)

I like it fine....course, I'm a butt kisser!

Doesn't work that way on mine Rude.

If I select 10 on the enemy icon screen I get 10 on the friendly screen. Switching friendly back to 12 switches enemy to 12 simultaneously.

I think it's only the icon colors that are selectable for friend/foe.

I don't like it for the reason Toad gave. If you tracking a bogey and run into a few other planes you can quickly lose track of who's who.

Luckily Skuzzy said it would be fixed in the next patch. TY HTC! :)

I don't like it.  I had a ME-163 lined up in my sites at night time yesterday and couldn't track the guy.  Once he'd maneuver out of my gunsight his icon would pop up again and I'd correct to have his icon dissapear again and lose track of his position.  I got some pings on the 163 but lost a fun kill due to this bug and being down to one gun bank and then running out of bullets 'cause I had to spray in his general direction.  Now if this 163 couldn't see my icon while I was chasing him, it might've been a fair fight 'cause he'd have trouble maneuvering against me.

Friendly Icons DO NOT disappear, only enemy.

At first, I did like the disapearing icon, but after flying a few fights on the deck, I have changed my mind.

I've got a 21" monitor and play at 1600x1200 32bit.

Even with those specs, I find it too easy to loose sight of bandits against the terrain, the colors just blend in too easily, much more than they would in RL.

At altitude, having the icon disappear is actually a help, but on the deck it is a hinderance.

I can live with it either way, but I would prefer a correction.

It's my opinion that this little bug should be a feature. By the time any con is within gun range in front of the gunsight you no longer need a laser-rangefinder, you can judge distance/closure visualy

You still need IFF, though. All planes are available to all countries.

Attribute it to getting killed at least once last night. The first time I was looking everywhere for that Niki, only to see tracers coming out of nowhere from head on. Wouldn't have been so bad if I'd known about it prior.

I knda did too - I actually thought at the time it was some sort of upgrade - as it remove clutter so you see the plane better.

It confused and distracted me at first.  Even after a few hours I almost wish the icon would either be on or off but Ive adjusted to it.

Also gives new weight to the concept of having the icon go off at a given range -say 600 yrds (regardless of whether the icon is in the sight or not).

I also really appreciate the adjustable icon sizes.
