Converting to an AVI
« on: December 13, 2002, 11:47:19 AM »
I'm trying to convert a film into an AVI but when I select "Ok" to the initial AVI box I receive and error message "Invalid or old format film."
I just made the film this morning and then zipped it using Winzip, emailed it to myself at work, unzipped it and I am now trying to convert it.
I also went to microsoft.com and downloaded the latest codecs like the Film Viewer suggested, still same issue......?

New development.
While typing up the previous post I was letting the Film viewer run. After submitting the post I checked and I had a new avi file and it actually had data in it.
Well, I tried it in the Media Player and it ran but all I saw was the flight tower. The film was the appropriate length too.
So, I guess the recording works just don't know why I can't start the film to convert it.

Dano,

I just did a short film, so here is what I did.  First, select the part of the film you want to make into an AVI.  You do this by using the start select and end select buttons.   Then when you make the AVI, there are two buttons to convert all the film or just the selection.  I save just the selection an uncompressed AVI file.

Next I opend that file with Windows Movie Maker, added some music and saved it as a WMV file.  The film was about a minute, the uncompressed file was 500M, and the compressed WMV file was 1M.  These films can get huge and can take some time to convert.

I'm not very good at this, but after hacking around with it for about 3 hours, I made this film.  It is a missing man formation we did over about 100 pilots on foot in formatin at the field.
