Depends. There are tradeoffs. You have to ask yourself what exactly your goal is and if you are willign to take the tradeoffs. Is your engine stock? Have you installed an aftermarket camshaft that makes more HP/torque higher RPM's? Just realize that when you are on the highway cruising at 65-70 MPH, your engine will be churning at around 3500 rpm in overdrive. But you will certainly shed some time off your 1/8-1/4 mile times if you can actually get your rear wheels to stick. Around town, the car will feel mroe responsive to acceleration too.
I installed a set of zoom 3:73's in my old 68 chevy P/U and it was alot of fun but it sure was a headache to drive any length of distance. But with slicks on I was clicking off 8.2 second eighth mile times.
