Fw 190A control surface movement ranges?
« on: December 19, 2002, 09:08:04 AM »
Howdy,

I have been trying to find the maximum movement ranges for aileron, elevator, flaps and rudder of Fw 190A and so far I've found some contradicting information. These are the ones I've seen most often, do you have some other values or explanations for the differences?

aileron [ -17, 17 ] degrees
elevator [ -25, 30 ] degrees
flaps [ -60, 10 ] degrees
rudder [ -16, 16 ] degrees

I didn't quite understand the positive 10 degrees for flaps. What could that mean or maybe it really was 0 and a typo? Also supposedly D-9 has the same tailunit with increased fin area and moved rudder hinge axis. I've seen [ -30, 30 ] listed for D-9's rudder movement range.

Some gliders have negative flap setting to allow faster gliding speeds.  I've never heard of it on a WWII fighter, though.
