« on: May 02, 2001, 01:09:00 PM »
Need a little help, joining AH in a couple of weeks and need some advice and some set-ups.

Here we go first

1. anyone here have a good profile for a saitek x-36 game controller that they would be willing to send me.
my email address is narsus@optonline.net

2. does AH run on win 2k? Wanna get rid of my duel boot and just run win 2k adv. server.

3. could you fly straight and level when you know I'm on your six so i can get lot's of kills

Welcome to Aces High Narsus!

1. http://www.hitechcreations.com/misc/rangerbob.zip   "This is a combination throttle stick profile for the Saitek x36 contributed by Ranger Bob.  Updated for version 1.05. Download Size - 25 KB Zip File"

2: Yes, although it runs better on Win98. A squadmate just tried W2K and went back to Win98SE.

3. You first.

See you online soon!

S!

Narsus..U have a screaming combo there for playing AH   I would just advice to obtain LATEST(even beta for a try) drivers for all devices U have and also run the service packs for W2K.
My experiences with AH in W2K were twofold.Good points were that it ran well and was stable.Less glitches?Bad side was that I had to use the crappier Wave Recording for RW instead of DirectSound Recording. This has to do something with DirectX 8 and RW?Also I lost in frame rate compared to 98SE/WinME.Where I could get above 200FPS(looking up in cockpit),I hardly got more than 75-80FPS in W2K.Also in W2K clouds affect FPS more than in 98/ME.This can be related to my ATI Radeon 64Mb + it's yet immature W2K drivers.
But with You combo I see no real problem.nVidia has good drivers for the GeForce(Detonator v12.00?) and SB Live! has it's own LiveWare(3.0?) for W2K.Give it a try in both and choose after that.W2K is definitely a more stable platform, even it is a bit slower in some games...

narsus - is you Saitek USB or gameport? If USB, then no, with your setup AH won't work properly under W2K. There's some kind of screwiness with X36USB/W2K/AH... I keep dual boot for that reason. Plus it gives me a "clean" boot everytime cuz everything is disabled apart from bare necessities .

As for the profile - I tried those that are available, didn't like any and went via AH internal Stick config utility to assign commands to DX buttons and worked from there. When I come up with what's missing I just add it into a profile - I find it "more natural" doing it this way. (keep in mind that DX buttons assignment diagram from Saitek website is screwed )

p.s. Learn F10 - took me a year to notice this little beauty - it will remember every head position saved for each different plane individually .
