Game Freezes after 15 miniutes
« on: December 20, 2002, 10:31:39 PM »
Dear Technical People,

I recently bought a new PC so I could upgrade and have enhanced performance
(at least that was my intentions).  My computer freezes, sometimes just
after log-on to AH, and sometimes it lets me play for about 20 minutes
before it freezes.
I am hopeful that one of you smart / experienced guys will say "Oh, push
this button, there, it's fixed!" (yeha, RIGHT!!).  Anyway, here is what I have.

Motherboard: By Elitegroup Computer, Model K7SEM 3.0C
Chipset /BIOS Info.  SIS730S
BIOS: American Megatrends  062710 07/15/97
Processor:  AMD Duron
                    892 MHz
                    Clock Speed  66 MHz
                    CPUID Info: 0x631 0x183F9FF
RAM:    512 MB
    Level1 Cache   128 KB
    Level 2 Cache   64 KB

C Crive:    19075 KB
                    FAT 32
                    80% free space
                    Cached speed  206.66 MB/s

Video Board:    NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440
                        Direct X version 5.1.2600.1106 (xpsp1.020828-1920)
Open GL version (same as above)
                        Acceleration Options ENABLED

Internet Connection: ADSL   Average Down= 651 Kbits/sec   Up= 122 Kbits/sec
Browser: MSIE 6.0; 5.1
IE Current Cache  5 MB
IE Max Cache   70MB

Operating System:  Windows XP  SP1  Full Version
Free Resources  90%

I don't know what other information you may need to help me, but I miss my
Aces High (and my squadmates think I abandoned them).  If you can help me
solve the freezing problem it would be greatly appreciated.

I have scanned the tech section of the message board, I do not see help for my problem there.  I am running 1028 700 (or whatever those number are) for resolution.

Please help.  I have reinstalled XP three times and AH 4 times.  no help, same problem.

I changed my on-board sound card (SIS 7018) and put in a Sound Blaster Live.  I still have the problem.  I also closed all unneeded programs that run in the background.  Still get freez-ups.  SKUZZY, I Emaild you my DXDIAG log.  Please help if you can.

Skuzzy (or God, if he still loves me after all the bad names I've been calling my PC), please help.

I removed AH and re-loaded it AGAIN, still freezes on me.

Error log shows Application Hang, Fault Bucket 24097052 (if I am reading the darn thing correctly).

All other applications, games, and computer use works fine.  I only have problems with AH.

With XP I can give you remote access to my PC, if you want to try that?

Let me know.

Prop, we shut down the office early Friday.  I will get to your email tomorrow.  Before I do, try checking to see if any interrupts are being shared, also, make sure you have hardware sound acceleration set to 3/4 in DXDIAG.

I would not use the onboard sound chip, but if you put in the SBLive board, you have to manually remove the driver for the on-board chip as Windows will not remove the device driver if there is a device, but not enabled.

Do you have SETI (or similar) running? If so, try disabling it. Also, disable AGP4X in the BIOS.

SETI / BIOS

QTI,

Thanks for your help Sir, but I can not find anything running that is similar to SETI, and, my dog gone computer will not let me access the BIOS (supposed to hit DEL, but it dosn't work, tried over and over aggain).

It appears that I do have some conflicts in IRQ, I/O ports, and memory, but the system will not let me change them (would be afraid to anyway since I don't know what I am doing).  Here are my conflicts / shared resources:

PCI Buss & Direct memory access controller on same I/O Port
SiS accellerated Graphics Port & my GeForce Vid card same I/O prt
GeForce Vid Card & Sound Blaster Live card on same IRQ5
PCI Buss/SiS Accel Graphics Port/Geforce Vid on same Mem Addy
SiS Accel Graphics Port/GeForce Vid Card on same I/O

If you have XP and you want to assist, I can give you Remote Access to my machine.  Email me at breezed@vcnet.com and I'll call you.

Thanks

I was able to get into the BIOS setup (geezzz, I amaze myself sometimes), and I was able to turn off the on-board sound card.

One thing that happeded though, is I now have my GeForce Vid Card and SBLive card on the same IRQ 10.  Does this matter??

Is your bios setup for PNP?  I"m not a fan of the motherboard you have ECS, couple guys I work with have issues with that board.  I might be able to help you with the remote assistance, check your mail around 530PM EST

I have the same MB with ADM 1800+ , gf4 Ti, 256MB sdram and I am using the onboard soundcard.
I have the same problem with AH but not so often as yopu do (once a week or so... and I play every day).
I didn't find a selution fot the problem because in my case it could be somthing else (old HD end ect.) but I did know of people with the same MB that found out that somtimes you can't put 2 sticks of RAM on this MB (I have 2 sticks of 128MB SDRAM each and it's looks o.k). So if you have 2 sticks of 256RAM each try and take one out and see if it's working o.k with just one stick.
You can try to look for help in the ECS K7S5** forum in this link:

Good luck
