ATI 8500 ground clutter setting
« on: December 27, 2002, 07:11:25 PM »
I've been playing around with the settings on my new ATI 8500.  I notice that sometimes the settings I choose allow me to have ground clutter on with no FR hit, while other settings cause ground clutter to create huge stutters.  However, since I am constantly trying new combinations of settings, I never know exactly which causes which.  Anyone know which setting is the one which affects ground clutter rendering?

I can tell you that with a reasonable CPU (gig or faster), an 8500 is more than enough for AH...even at 1600x1200....in fact, the radeons due just as good at higher settings in many cases.

Also be aware that a radeon 8500 renders 24 bit just as fast or faster than 16bit.

Ground clutter has no effect on FR, the only stuttering I ever got was due to ZONE ALARM (especially older versions from 2001 and early 2002.)

The secret to successful troubleshooting like your asking for is to make 1 change. Write down exactly what it was. Test, compare notes.  Make next change, etc.

Makeing several changes blindly then trying to remember what you did will just get you deaper into the hole your in.
