JBA - I am not French. Britain beat France in the Napoleonic wars, 1815, and in the Revolutionary war 1789-92.
OK, perhaps the "intended audience" does not know that France has its own language? Sorry to labour the point, but I live in a culture of multilingualism. If you don't know what that is, come to the next Eurocon in Holland. For the benefit of the Americans who have never been beyond their own shores (ie most of them - LOL) Holland is also known as The Netherlands, and is one of 15 member states of the European Union. You can't drive there, but you can fly there. It's right of the North Sea, and left of Germany - lol. You will need a passport - a sort of booklet with your personal details and photograph, with a lot of blank pages for visas - those are permits to allow to to stay in the country you are visiting. The vast majority of con-goers will be fluent in at least two languages, many in three, and some in four or more. It seems that most Americans who post here struggle with one. LOL So I'm used to seeing things in the appropriate language. Excuse the hell out of me for not being a truck driving redneck.
