A better Mission Editor
« on: December 28, 2002, 05:12:50 PM »
The currently mission editor does a pretty good job in the MA,it allows one to create an orgainized attack on and target and provide the aircraft and load out  for an airfield or VH or other target and provide a basic profile and route of flight.

The current mission editor/creator has many drawbacks and if/when a mission arena is created the current mission editor's short commings may cause what I hope will be a welcomed addition to game play, may in fact  be little used and quickly fall to to out of favor because of the problems with the current Mission editor.

A mission editor needs to do more then is currently available with the current editor.  A Mission editor needs to be able to assign flights, flight leaders, aircraft, aircraft load outs,  routes of flight, waypoints(by name), call signs, radio freq, missions load outs, primary targets, secondary targets.  Target maps should also be available.

The creation of a Mission and the start of that mission should not put pilots in the plane on the runway, as it now does.  The Mission start should  lead to perhaps a briefing room in which mission members can discuss detailed assignments and review target locations at that point the Mission leader can launch the mission.

Only this one would be good.

You can set waypoints, assign flights, plane types and ordnance but I agree you should also be able to set a flight lead, for example I post missions each week comprising of a bomber flight and a few escort flights. I take lead for the bombers but often the fighter escort ask who is flight lead.

Other than that the mission editor works very well as does the comms channel where you have ample time to discuss the mission outside of the general chat channels.

I understand that the current mission editor allows you to set waypoints, that was not my point, what I would like to be able to do with the current editor is set a waypoint and label the waypont name such as  Point Alpha.

I think the whole point of the mission arena is to plan and carry out very detailed missions.  Missions that will mimic real world missions, with aircraft starting at different airfields and aircraft starting from one airfield hitting several distinct targets.

With the current editor try assigning a general area in which to fly a CAP or try to assign a scouting mission and keep in mind you can only have 8 flights.

I really think a better mission editor would add to the enjoyment of the game.

perhaps a way to inform each flight of their target with a pop up box.
perhaps a simple target list or even better have a map of the target and allow mission planner to draw on to it so others in mission see what hes pointing out?

I think we need just a few more flights than 8 too or allow us to post 2 missions.

also if a player/mission planner leaves a planned mission in the maproom and then leaves the arena with that mission still up could we have the system check it has already started and if it has it then deletes it?or moves it to the bottom of the list.
and could the actual flight description(at present only place you can say targets) and the list of missions be a little more prominant on the page?
If when a player chooses a flight, a pop up box informs them of their target and altitude to fly and speed etc, that would help a lot!.

sometimes you post your mission and it isnt immediately obvious where it is on the list to new players.it only shows 3 missions at a time then it has to be scrolled.perhaps 5 or so would be better?.

and the mission bug for the time when it approaches 0:00 please fix

thnx
