Aces High vs. Fighter Ace 3.5
« on: January 28, 2003, 11:50:04 AM »
Hi all... I recently purchased Fighter Ace 3.5 and through scanning the boards.. found people referring to this game...

Many of them said this was a better game.. Im not so concerned about graphics... I guess realistic physics are more important to me... and of course plane variation (I like flying the crazy offshoots)

Can someone give me a comparison of the two?

Thanks!

BTW... a few years ago I played an online Sim called Air Warrior III 3D.... is this the same publisher?

Is that game still active... I loved the flight models in that one.

I believe Fighter Ace is or WAS a MS product.  Nothing to do with AW although some guys who worked on AW may be working on FA now.

Why not download it (its free) and try it yourself? You can be the judge.  You can play it online for free as well.

I have a sub to both games. I have to say that AH is the better product. Mega lag in 3.5 and the flight model is very arcade like. My old squad flies FA( VAC ). So I keep the sub and fly with them time to time. We also play Americas Army. If you go FA, hook up with VAC_Supertom. He is a great CO and a great guy. The whole squad is good people, they'll take the time to answer any questions and help you out.

Panzershrec, the best thing for you to do is try 'em out. You can download Aces High and try it out free for two weeks. There are many here willing to help you get started.

A bit of advice, if you ask a question in the main arena and one of those AK bozos tells you to press alt-f4, don't.  ;)

SixPence' reply is exactly what I was looking for. Seemed like the flight model in FA was a little too forgiving... Golly-geen things never seem to stall..

Ill give AH a try. Look forward to seeing you all in game.

I only played Air Warrior at full realism... seemed a lot more challenging that way but I didnt have another reference and Im not a pilot in RL so I only have you guys to base an opinion on...

but IF AH's flight model is that good... Ill give it a try... you all have convinced me :)

Don't forget to turn the stall limiter off too, not sure if its on by default or not, but check it anyway.

Also experiment with combat trim - comign from Warbirds to AH I thought AH planes were porked until I turned combat trim off.

It depends on which arena you fly in in Fa3.5, They have three of them.
arcade, intermediate, and full realism
most of the people fly in intermediate arena.
I flew AW since 1995 until EA sports
Pearl Harbored game.
Flew both FA3 and AH. Have stayed with AH but going to try FA 3.5 again simce most of the squad I was with in AW, went there. If you fly ROOKS in AH look for HGDRK.
What is best about AH is not only that you can fly great planes but if tired of flying there is always gound battle or sea battles to do. nothing like manning a 5 in gun and killing attacking aircraft or being in a tank have great gound war.

I think you'll find those amongst the ex-AWer's that hate the flight model are in the minority.  Most that came over and stayed was because of the better flight model and most of the influx of AW players in the last year were mostly RR flyers.

In AW you were also had 100% control of the rudders, so I don't know where you get that they weren't.

Fighter Ace 3.5 guns are too accurate, thats why big cannon planes like Ki84c dominates.

Bomb fuse are great if you like skip bombing.

Country balance is always an issue (US players whine everyday on the newsgroup). Some planes seem to have big FM issues unfortunatly.

Graphics are nice if you have a good graphic card.
Terrain is a bit dull though.
