New Computer need help!
« on: December 28, 2002, 05:37:20 PM »
Hey All

Just picked up an Intel 2.4Ghz, Intel board, G-Force 2 Ti and running Win98SE.  Been having frame rate problems and absolutly can't run anything higher than 800x600.  Been getting jerky frame rates when getting close to the bad guy.

Now my lan, video and sound are all running off IRQ 11.  Is this going to be a problem?  I've tried unsuccessfully to switch the video or sound to a free IRQ but windows is being a potato peeler about it.

Got the latest drivers and verified my dirX version.

Suggestions anyone?

Use the 30-82 detonator drivers, not the latest 4 series for your video Ti Card. Works much better. Let the program control anti-aliasing in the vid settings for Nvidia.

Reserve a slot for the nic lan card in bios and get the interupt shifted.  If necessary you may have to pull all the cards out except video and remove them from the system listing and let windows re-install video first, then add sound card (if onboard sound it will install anyway), and lastly the NIC in a reserved slot specified in bios. You can determine which slot to reserve once the video and sound is installed. Look under PCI/Legacy configuration info in the advanced chipset options in Bios.

Though my cards share PCI IRQ steering and a host USB controller (10), my NIC, sound and video are on different irqs.

e.g. Netgear card= 9 (irq 9 reserved in bios for the NIC slot), Audio=10 (auto), video Geforce Ti =11 (auto)

Video will usually be 10 or 11 on pnp.

What OS are u running? I guess either 2000 Pro or some version of XP.

Also what motherboard u running? Is it a Intel chip set or SIS or Via?

If you could post some info on your motherboard that would help.

For a test, run up offline and pick an A6M5B and take off from noth with out moving the stick. ie: run up the throttle but dont touch anything. what are your max/mix frames.  ie: from stand still to when the plane lifts off?

Reason I thought 2K or XP was the IRQ 11 thing...

If u could look in your bios for a  setting for PNP OS = Yes/No
Set it to NO.

I used to have hastle with 2k and XP setting all IRQ's to one IRQ (9) until I changed this.  Dont ever rember this with 98 though... but had loads of other haslte with 98 though. :)

If u dont use your Serial port and Printer port disable them if u can, these can use up to 2 IRQ's.

If u could tell us what motherboard/chip set u use it will help is helping u find the drivers.

Regards

Mandrill.

Thanks for the support all.  I think I have it.  Still using the latest drivers for video, disabled the serial port and the IRQ for the sound magically moved over.  Gotta love windows.  I played for an hour or so at 1024 x 768, 32 bit.  No problems.  Think I'll try some more testing now!

My appologies if I shoot you down in the next hour, but you'll know the solution worked!!!  Hmmm, perhaps I could be the one getting shot down?

Naaa

FYI MB is Intel D845PEBT2

Thanks again
