Disappearing/flickering icons......thumbs down :(

While 1.04 version seems to be great, IMHO, there is a big problem with the icons.  I can understand having them disappear when they are obstructed by a solid piece of the aircraft, i.e., the nose, wing, tail, etc, but I had the disappearing from view through the top of the canopy in the P38, from directly ahead (within the gunsight), and directly behind.  
HTC is still the leader hands down in the combat sim race, but seems this time they added too many fancy gadgets to the sim.  SA was difficult enough before, now, with the enemy icon disappearing from view without obvious cause, it is next to impossible for me.  
I hope someone at HTC reads this, or others voice an opinion about it.  I intend to keep working at it, but right now, I feel this little "feature" is a step in the wrong direction.  Just my opinion, for what it is worth.

I was just about to post a thread congratulating HT on the "flickering icon" innovation.

One of the things that I had noticed about AH is that the surprise bounce was very rare. Considering that most of the kills in ww2, the victim had no clue he was under attack, I thought that this lack of surprise in AH was a draw back.

I think the new system is an excellent idea. Now I have only flown 1.04 a little bit, but I haven't noticed the bugs you mention - perhaps tweaking is needed, no problem. I was paying particular attention to this feature to make sure the ICON shut off only when the object was obstructed, not the tag....indeed it seemed to work fine.

First noticed the disappearing icons today in the H2H arena thought it was a cool bug that needed no squashing.

It never happened until the con was near enough that the icon was needed for ID purposes..

If you ever take a vote here is mine, when the con is inside 1.5K leave the icons off till he passes.

Well, I really don't know what to say about icons in general.

Icons are one of those things that help make up for not really being there, and one of those things that totally take away from realism.

Its very difficult to see distinguish enemies, since we all fly all the planes, so some sort of icon is necessary. BUT, I do think that it totally ruins the surprise, and I especially do not like the distance meter.

I guess I would like to see a better compromise, not doing away with icons, but making them MUCH less prominent, mostly used for distinguishing enemy planes from friendly ones, and getting rid of the distance altogether

Love it !!!!!!!!!!  I say get rid of the icons all together just make it a tiny red or green dot  visible above or below the airplanes.  ditch the laser range finder BS ,, thats for gurlies.

I agree on icons dissapearing if they are being covered by things like a Wing or the tail section, etc.

But the canopy struts? I mean, C'mon! Sure they obstructed the view in RL, but the pilot just moved his head an inch and he could see again. We do not have that kind of control with a computer.

I finally figured out why the icons were "randonly" disappearing.  They were being obstructed by struts.

Not a good idea.  IT STINKS.
Nose, wings, fuselage ok, but struts NO..
