Needed: Slower Early-war Bombers & B-24
« on: January 06, 2003, 01:05:06 PM »
It's been said before, but the Ju-88A-4 currently used as the German "bomber for all seasons" is too fast when it fills in for the A-1 model.  The A-4 is almost as fast as the Hurricane I & Spit I.

We need more bombers in AH, and I'd start with the Junkers Ju-88A-1, Heinkel He-111, Illyushin Il-4, SIAI Marchetti S.M. 79, Mitsubishi G4M "Betty", and (the most produced heavy bomber of the war) the Consolidated B-24 "Liberator".

There are some who say we already have the B-17, so we don't need the B-24, that it duplicates the B-17.  I disagree:  depending on which models you compare, the B-24's bomb load is about 33% larger.  That's significant.  To those who would suggest, "Take a Lanc if you want more bombs," I'd point out that the Lanc really can't defend itself very well.  Certainly not as well as a B-24.

i would just point out that the 17 model F has taken off with a load of 16,000lbs with fuel cut back to go hit V1 rocket sights this was a single mission. Also the Pilot was Quoted to say "Flying that plane was like wlking on eggshells filled with Nitro"

It's been said before and again...but we have to be patient. Half the fun in Aces High is development. While many people resented the wait for 1.11, it was inevitable if Hitech Creations was to make progress on both the mission theater and a new version, separately. I don't disagree with your point, I'm simply saying, most all of the planes will be seen in time...

Couldn't agree more MrPluto.

Say... where's that news update HTC had mentioned?

I'm not complaining or trying to rush anyone, just saying what I'd like to see sooner rather than later.

The Hurri 1 and Spit 1 are both faster the the the ju88a-4. Easily faster.

The a1 and a5 were from  12 to 24 mph slower then the a4. The a5 used the same airframe as the the a4 but used the same eng as the a1.

The ju88a-1/a-5 could escape the raf in the real BoB by diving away. The ju88a-4 offers no real advantage over the a1 or a5.

Wotan has a point:  here's what I found--

Ju-88A-1 max speed 280 mph @ 18k

Ju-88A-4 max speed 290 mph @ 18k

Hurricane I speed at 18k:  310 mph

So....the Hurricane I is 20 mph faster than A-4 and 30 mph faster than the A-1.  That's a difference of 50%; in other words it will take a Hurricane I 50% longer to catch an A-4 than an A-1.  I guess it's a judgement call if you consider that significant.

What is definately significant is that the He-111's top speed was only 252 mph.  So I'd make the He-111 a top priority.  Also 'cause they look so evil, especially in formation.
