For you pet and firearm lovers/haters...
« on: January 09, 2003, 01:16:57 AM »
For more pet outrage, read the story on CNN.com about the tennessee troopers that mistakenly stopped a car based on an incorrect carjacking report, then as the family (face down in the dirt) pleaded for the cops to close the car doors so the family dogs wouldn't get out, the cops freaked out and shot their dog in the face with a shotgun.  CNN has video of the whole thing... The dog sure LOOKS friendly, it's just a tiny little thing trying to play with the flashlight, wagging it's tail so happy to be out of the car, then BOOM no more puppy.

Oh yea, the cops won't properly apologize either.  Stupid f**king hick cops can't even do a felony stop on an innocent vacationing family without screwing up.  Sure makes me want to visit Tennessee with the wife...  handsomehunk hicks.

You'd think the wagging tail would have thrown off his aim.

Shotguns kinda mute that point though.

Yeah.  I have about the same opinion.

I've been following this one for a bit.  Here is an earlier link from a Tennessee paper:

Ignorent sadistic bastages on a power trip.

edit: just read the part of the article where the POS with the shotgun was all toejams and giggles cause of what he did. Infuriating, Now I remember why I hate most of the bastages(IE the sadistic power trip ones)(BTW though I have family members who work in law before all you get your panties in a bunch)

This happened a few miles form here and they've been showing the video on the news a lot. (By the way, it was a Cookeville police officer that shot the dog, not a State Trooper).

I actually think it was a pretty tough call on the officer's part. First, the dog was hardly a "tiny little thing", I'd say 50-60 pounds. And the dog was running at him at the time. Whether or not he was "playing with the flashlight" is speculative, but I doubt it. In retrospect, the dog was obviously scared and excited, but in the few seconds the officer had to make the decision I have a hard time second-guessing him. Finally, the Police Chief and mayor have met with the family and profusely apologized.

My Dad was a California Highway Patrol officer for around 30 years and his main comment was that the cops were morons...  There were SO many things wrong with that stop, it's hard to believe such officers haven't all shot each other or themselves out of stupidity.

Wow

And all week long I'm seeing "visit Tennessee" commercials on Discovery Wings.  Best to leave the dog at home, I see.

Dumb cop...sorry...just the whole episode is assinine.  I foresee one unemployed cop and a very big lawsuit.

BTW....the cop is now reassigned to desk duties

I dunno, from reading what the cops say, and this whole "smirk" thing...I'm just not seeing anything majorly apologetic from the law enforcement side, and thus the outrage.
