Can't Map Brakes to Keyboard or Stick

Can't get my brakes to work
I can not get my wheel brakes to work. Not on keyboard or on stick. I have mapped and I have remapped both - for example the joystick. The mapper seems to function correctly (button indicates on mapper control panel when I press it) However when I go to use the function, no brakes.

Same thing with keyboard.

All other functions map fine and normal (flaps, guns, etc etc etc.)

I am clueless - any suggestions?

At the end of last night for some reason it just started working on it's own.  Still have no clue as to what was up.
