pirated software is NEVER safe, with kazaa, it's more likely to be infected with something than it is to be safe.

I'm going to ignore your statement that you didn't realize that trying to obtain a FREE copy of XP is considered obtaining pirated software and offer you a suggestion.

When you buy hardware (especially hard drives) most retailers can sell you an OEM copy of the OS, which is significantly cheaper than retail.  It won't be free, but it will be legal.

Go sign up for a Microsoft Technet briefing. Make sure you stay for the entire briefing and you will get whatever software they are giving away. I have 4 copies of WinXP in both Pro and Home that I got that way. I gave all but one to my family so I don't have any more. The ones where they give out the best copies of software are the most boring briefings I have ever sat through. I got my last copy of WinXP Pro after sitting through a briefing about the way that you are able to help clients offsite by using the remote help feature of WinXP. It was the most boring 6 hours of anything I have ever sat through aside from the SQL briefing where I got some other big piece of software from them.
