Change of Motherboard ... Question
« on: January 09, 2003, 11:31:08 PM »
Hi

I have a question regarding a change of motherboard from ASUS A7V333 (VIA Chipset) to A7N8x (NVIDIA Chipset).

Can i simply replace CPU, Cooler and RAM and start it up again with my former WIndows XP configuaration (VIA Software) or do i need to reinstall the entire WIndows XP from scratch cause of the NVIDIA Chipset Software ?

Does WIndows XP allow me to install new drivers (NVIDIA) while bootup ?

Thanks for answering

Airmess

It should start up.  Windows should look for the drivers.  You will undoubtedly have a  CD that came with the mobo.  Your drivers for the NVidia chipset should be on there.  If XP does not prompt you for the Nvidia chipset driver....insert the CD and autorun will let you load the appropriate drivers.

Now....remember this is Windows....need I splain more Lucy?

It'll work, you'll have to install the drivers for the motherboard.... but unfortunately Windows will keep your old motherboard's configuration too....

It'll work, but it won't be nearly as fast as a clean Windows installation on your new motherboard.

Something that worked for someone else:

Install the new MB and Processor.
Boot from WinXP CD.
Select "Setup WinXP"
Select "Repair existing installation"

This should update the drivers so your new board will run. It would be a good idea to re-install SP1 after that.
