I don't know about best picture, but these two movies have no chance.

"Solaris"--> My wife and I both said we would have left early if the other had said something. If you're a woman(or gay)and like George Clooney, you get to see his bare ass. My wife adores him and she wanted to leave.

"Gangs of New York"--> Another bad movie. It looks like they spent $.02 on the sets.

I think the best picture of the year so far is Two Towers, but I doubt it will win, even though it has gotten some rave reviews from some of the most respected magazines. I guess since its three installments its hard to make it win because by itself, none of the LOTR movies are a whole picture by itself. And all hints point that Return of the King will be even better so it would be dumb to give the award to Two Towers when the last one will be better.
But who knows, Oscars like to suprise people.

Then Gangs of New York is a good candidate IMO. It was a solid flick. Catch me if you can is also a good contender (damn I'm becoming some Leo Decaprio studmuffin?) I dont know about that Chicago musical, and I have yet to see About Schmidt.

Best film I've seen all year was Two Towers. Those 3 hours just flew by. To keep an audience interested for that length of time deserves an oscar in itself (look at Pearl Harbour for an example of how not to do it).

It reminded me of the time dilation that I experienced with Schindler's List.

Two Towers..

The 3 hours indeed went quickly. (buh.. it's half an hour movie, I could swear! nowhere did it feel like 3 hours)

A true classic.  LOTR could learn a thing or two from it.

Donnie Darko is a good one.. but that was released in 2001.

I'd go with The Two Towers, but hollywood's love affair with Tom Hanks may get "Catch Me if You Can" a best movie and a best supporting actor.  Signs has a chance, but they don't really like that director.

I have a feeling the "Return Of The King" will be the best of the three.  And since the entire story has an ending with ROTK, may be the best chance for an Oscar.  I still think the guy who played Gandalf should've won the actor award last year.

Yeah... and that movie didn't deserve it either. Proof positive that the Oscars are nothing more than a product of marketing amongst the industry and politics.
