And this, gentlemen, in a nutshell, is why FGump expresses his disappointment and dissatisfaction in the MA. FGump is a squad mate of mine and yes, he does get a little 'involved' in the game. As AKDejaVu points out, this game is competitive in nature and FGump is a very competitive player.
By that I mean he is a team player...he gives 6 calls and warns other Knights when they are in danger. He tries to capture bases and is always willing to assist another player or squad in that endeavor...usually to his own detriment. Put succinctly, he is a selfless player who puts the team before himself...
What does he want in return? The same thing all competitors on a team want - mutual support. It is clear from my observations that in recent weeks that level of support has dwindled markedly. Gratefully, there are some exceptions, particularly among those who have been with the game for a while. Still, despite the efforts of these players, the knights are increasingly a 1 man show masquerading as a unified country...and thats why we are now losing on a regular basis. And yes, competitors hate to lose...even FGump.
Recognize that when you are in the MA there are two different games being played. One group of players is all about arcade-style gaming. Quick fun and short engagements are their forte. The other is about conquering territory and capturing bases: a practice that takes coordination, teamwork and persistence. These two forces occassionally come together when both of their objective styles can be met but more frequently than not they don't work together.
Neither approach is right or wrong. Both flavors are available depending on your personality and desire of the moment. But when you are surrounded by supposed countrymen you should still be certain of some level of support - even a lowly check six call - at the simple touch of a button.
I don't know which camp you are part of TeeDog, but you're willingness to ignore a 'countryman' in trouble speaks volumes about what's wrong with the knights. Players like FGump aren't the problem..they are putting their heart and soul into playing the game (the base capture game) and they feel they are being betrayed by their own countrymen.
.. I’ll never give him “6 calls” and/or help him... and I know a lot of other members feel the same way... There it is in a nutshell.
Personally, I'll always give you and every other Knight check six calls...even if I dislike them -
you can count on that.
I will dive down and try to clear your six..even if I compress -
you can count on that I will drop my ordnance and help you whenever I see you in trouble -
you can count on that.
I will break pursuit of a bandit when I am within 400 yards to come to your aid -
you can count on that.
I will try and kill an adversary who has just killed you -
you can count on that.
I will risk getting killed with 10 kills under my belt and will run to assist you rather than land them -
you can count on that.
I will ditch my GV, kills and all, and get supplies to help you recover in a damaged Tiger -
you can count on that.
I will do all these things and more for a fellow countrymen because I am a TEAM player.
My question to you TeeDog is what can FGump or any other Knight count on from you?
I don't intend this as a flame. My intention was, and is, to use your post an a means to crystallize the issues present in the game and maybe, just maybe, to get some players to reflect on their committment to fellow team members....and maybe improve the game a little....one check-six at a time.
