A squad I had never heard of before.Anyone have any more info.?
VF-31, "The Flying Meataxes" destroyed 165 Japanese planes in aerial combat, tops among all CVL (light carrier) squadrons. They deployed with USS Cabot, CVL-28, from November, 1943 through September 1944.

Geez no wonder... who'd wanna be remembered as a Meataxe? (rofl). No offense intended but that kinda sounds like someone was hard pressed to come up with a name.
