I have tried all settings given by you guys (other players) and nothing helps.

I did notice that the bounce is from pitch only and roll does not have the bounce in it. This leads me to believe it has something to do with gyroscopic precession aspect design of the game.

I can apply back pressure then release it. As long as I have some sort of aft pressure on the stick, the nose will gradually return close to level flight. As soon as I return the stick to center, it bounces. Same for foward stick movement. When I begain to return the stick to center the nose begains to com up toward level, but If I return the stick to center before the "Trim" can catch up with it, it bounces. It does this with or without combat trim. However, Combat trim does help.

Sounds like you have a dead spot in the center, have you checked to see if your potentiometers are in good condition?  Sounds more like a hardware issue rather than a software one.

I have the exactly same problem a u CurtissP-6EHawk. I tried a 1000 different settings for pitch. Nothing helped. I use a MS Sidewinder Precision 2 (without FF).

Sounds familiar, I think everyone has this problem, even those that don't admit it. Just the frequency seems to be overmodeled ;)

i have the mspp2 usb and it does have noticeable nose bounce. I have tweeked my settings way down for rudder, some for pitch and got the bounce manageable. I also bought an x45 but have not got used to it yet -- nose bounce on the x45 is so slight that it is not an issue. I have since further tweeked my mspp2 settings and strapped the dam thing down to a large book and now it is quite a kick butt setup -- so good in fact that my new saitek isn't yet in use (training mode hehe).

Bottom line: your nose bounce is most likely the stick,  you will never get rid of it altogether but you should be able to minimize it.

good luck

....potentiometers are in good condition

Where do I find these and how do I check it/them.

I just installed two new pots and they dont help the bounce. I did have one bad pot but I switched it to the throttle so no change in pitch and roll axis.

Certainly there are othe USB CH Fightersticks being used out there with the same problem, if not, I need to know what it is and how to fix it.

Another example;
GV, while inside gun I can center stick and the gun starts to turn or pitch up by itself. After calibrating, it does the same thing. I can set deadband to stop it but then prisision becomes an issue. With this "deadspot", I tend to "overcontrol" the movements and are just as frustrating as the nose bounce.

Keep the info comming, sooner or later I will find a fix.

Not everyone, not even the majority have this problem.  I've been able to eliminate the nose bounce by adjusting my stick scale.

Have you tried contacting CH tech support?  You stick should still be under warrenty and maybe you should think about calling them up and requesting an RMA# to replace your Fighterstick.

I use all analog CH stuff still through a gameport to USB adaptor and I don't have the problem you are experiencing.  From my experience at working at CH, the only times people had the problem you have is because of either of one or two things, one, the potentiometers are bad and two, the game port was to slow for the joystick.  Since you are using USB, we can pretty much eliminate the game port being the problem.

I have contacted CH but he keeps emailing me two word emails that end in a ?..lol  Looks like it will be a while.

The stick is out of warenty. It is a USB stick, not analog.

I have been messing with the CH Control manager, but nothing still seams to help.

I looked in add/delet files but dont see a program to deled Directx. I found it in WINDOWS/something, I forget, and deleted it. I reinstalled what ever was on the CH disk. Nothing helped.

I have a CH Throttle and Pro peds oredered so if they work well, I will just look for a new stick. If nothing works, I will sell everything and go back to the Microsoft PP. I actually hate the grip on the CH stick :-(

copy of an email from a squadie:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
from squadie,

Okay, I guess I don't know or don't understand what is going on. I am not computer tech smart in the least, and I am not about to tear apart my stick or I would be out for good until I bought a new one. I have a Logitech Wingman Force 3D stick. I experience bounce also but It only seems to be a factor at speeds of 300+, I thought this was normal. In other words the faster I go the more nose bounce I get. Until now I have considered this normal and accepted or compensated. With all of this stick talk lately-do I also have a stick or set up problem??
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
my reply:

lol, mine is opposite, the slower I get the worse it gets. The faster I get, the better I can control it with trim or combat trim and is why I love the Tempest. I simply cannot dogfight with this stick.

Do a search of the AH message boards for the DirectX 8.2 thread.  DirectX 8.2 was a bug fix for DirectX 8.1b and part of the fixes included updated USB .dll files, that might help you out.

stick bounce prob found!
« Reply #12 on: January 17, 2003, 07:18:55 PM »
well son of a bi#@#! I found the culprit!!!!!!

I had, or at least, the force feedback was enabled and I dont have a force feedback stick. This droped the bounce down considerably.

In the blue window inside control setup. The cross hairs jump a bit when centered. As in everyones replys, the dampen, ect softens it up a bit. I still dont like it but it is playable now. I am still gonna go buy a cheap wal-mart special and see if there is a diff.!
