LOL Masherbrum.  Never heard of that incident.

Products of the Detroit public schools, maybe?  <---- I'll go kick myself for saying that now.  :D

Sad really.

On a brighter note, the downtown area of Chicago (Taylor street and vicinity) seems to be going just the opposite direction. Very nice renewal projects and high priced homes.

I drove from Toronto to Detroit once for a Jays game.  On the way back we took a wrong turn and ended up in a really nasty looking area.  We locked the doors, rolled up the windows and didn't ever come to a full stop until we got outta there.  Freaked us both out.

But I think the title of this thread is not fair to Detroit.  There is alot worse in the world today and although I didn't see them I'm sure there are some nice parts of town.

I had to go downtown for some charity work at a Cathloic mission once.  The priests sat us down and gave us the rules:

1) Never look into anybodys eyes-always look away.
2) Never eat at a public place in the area.
3) Never attempt to drive after dark.
4) Never ask anybody for directions if lost in the area.

The second day there a man scaled the bob-wire fences and stole a priests car in broad day-light.  A few days later some  of the "residents" at the mission were busted for selling gun-silencers.  Once-I was so hungry I went into a tacobell with a friend.  You placed your order behind bullet proof-glass and your food was sent through a carosel. I asked the manager about the glass and he said they got robbed once per week without the glass and now only once per month with it-and usually just the customers now!!!!!!!!!!!
