Good luck getting it fixed.

Skuzzy, the mental picture you have is one that is carefully husbanded by the anti gun crowd. They want you to think that way so they can more easily set their agenda. You see they feel they know better than anyone else and believe in freedom, particularly the freedom to tell others who have committed no misdeeds with a firearm, that they can no longer indulge in the hobby they like. Like prohibition, it is an attempt to tell you how  they want you to live your life.

Arguments over this have been rife in the bbs for as long as I have been a member of the AH community.

As far as what the "average" gun enthusiast is like, look at the average person on the street and that is what they look like. By far the vast majority of gunowners look just like you. Maybe better looking but kinda similar.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Skuzzy, I used to feel exactly the same way.   Then I found out how many people that I know are gun owners - all regular people that don't go out of their way to make it known.

Replace the word "gun" with "combat simulation."   I know people that can't figure out why anyone would willingly recreate any kind of combat on a computer.   There are those that think anyone that plays combat simulations are the embodiment of evil, creating a generation of individuals that are de-sensitized to killing and death.  We Aces High fans aren't crazed maniacs that are just a hair's breadth from becoming killers.  Neither are the vast majority of gun owners in the US.   The news at six would have people think differently, though.

No GtoRA2, I was apologizing for my remark that beet1e used as a setup for his joke.

beet1e, I know your opinion about guns, but am asking for a reprieve from it for a bit.  Thank you.

Mav,..doesn't really wash with me, as I have never subscribed to any type of gun propoganda.  I really never pay attention to such stuff.
In the Air Force, I was a pretty good shot.  There may have been some things that happened there that sort of turned my interest down.

Oh Airboss, I know in real life that gun owners are pretty much regular people.

I just had that bizarre picture in there, but never related it to anyone real.

My Dad and brothers all own guns.  It's probably why I feel a bit uneasy as to why I do not find it interesting.  You know,..one of those,.."What's wrong with me?" types of things.

Anyways,..thought it an intersting thread.  Hope you get it worked out GtoRA2.  For any hobby, safety first.

Thats understandable - as with any hobby - the first impression and experience shapes your opinion.  I started shooting .22's and 20 guage shotguns in Boy Scouts - it turned out that our Scout Master thought I was half decent and petitioned my father to buy shotgun so as not to waste my young "talent."

Kinda got hooked after that - when I started out, it was fun as a kid to hold something with such immense power and watch the clay birds explode when I hit them - but as I grew up, I started liking the "sport" for different reasons - groupings, distance shots, etc.  As you get more involved and interested, you look at the history and technicalities of firearms very similar to the way we look at aircraft.  Advantages, disadvantages, favorites, whats crap, what the "P-51 of the gun world" at the time, etc.

I worked at a rifle range when I was in college and that further encouraged the hobby.  Its just what youre surrounded by I suppose.  (Marine Corps didnt hurt either)

In addition, the stereotypical gun owner isnt Jeb from 'Bama.  Youd be surprised at the people you know that are gun owners and dont make any mention of it.  Its not exactly a cheap hobby when your shelling out $1,000+ for decent weapons.  Those that collect old military firearms are evenb further seperated from the stereotype - $15,000 for a Civil war rifle is a pricey purchase to watch it collect dust in a show case.

YMMV, 2 cents cashed.

Bummer about the bad slide.  Everything I've heard about SA is that their stuff is usually better quality than that.

I would imagine they want to see the gun to find out exactly what they did wrong in the manufacturing process so it doesn't happen again.  While it's a pain for you, it does make me feel better they're going to that trouble.

In the end you should get the quality gun you paid for in the first place.  Just not when you wanted it. ;)

And yes, hunting and guns are my hobby.  :D

SA usually has good quality for the more affordable guns.  probably just got past quality control.

btw- as far as you 'probably too much oil' idea- excesive oil will not cause that type of problem.  the only problem I've ever seen from to much oil is dirt and dust build-up and 'killed primers'

All the gun mags reviewed it well, and no one has anything bad to say about them so I hope it was a fluke, we shall see when it comes back though.

I don't know if there IS a 'gun-type', other than the over-used stereotype.

for example, I have one , my neighbors have one, etc etc.. me the IT guy, neighbor is a lift-operator (ski bum), etc etc..

I've been working on a new sport (been having trouble getting courses to let me play though   )

skeet golf-  if your 'second' can shoot your badly hit ball before it lands, then you get to play it again, no penalty.

there's some golf I might play.

"looks like a long fairway, I may need the 10 guage for this one"

I just never really cared for it one way or the other.

Is it a hobby to you guys?  And that may explain it.  It just ain't a hobby that interests me.

I'm with you skuzzy. It's like football and soap operas, I just don't get it .
