was a bad performer at high alt was SOOOOO wrong.

During a test on another matter I took an La7 up to 40.000 ft and leveled her off. Much to my suprise it just kept going faster and faster and... Well I stopped once it reached 520MPH!!! :eek: (much faster and it would have disintigrated from the shaking).

Hehe, ok it's true that it above 37K acts like it's on steroids, but under normal conditions this never will come into play. It's climb simply drops to so low a value that it wouldn't be able to cross the "magic" line. :)

Considering that the LA7's service ceiling (100 FPM) is like 35K and its absolute ceiling can't be much higher, it's pretty clear that the FM alone wasn't responsible to let the plane get that high.

In the MA, you'd run out of fuel before reaching that altitude.

What was the wind set to Snefens?  :)

La7 Sucks?  Ok well then that explains why all those planes were behind me Thursday night between A4 and A5.  I thought they chasing me, I guess they just got trapped in my vacuum:D

J_A_B, like I said this will never happen in the arena. To get to that alt I set wind to 127 mph up.
I was just testing fuel consumption at extreme alts, when I noticed I actually was going pretty fast. :)

BTW, the La7's manifold pressure never starts to drop like for instance the 109 or p47.

Probably flightmodel wierdness caused by the fact that he was flying above the airplane's ceiling  :)

As he's been saying, it can't happen in the MA--you can't get that high.

An La-7 with headwind or not would never make it up to 40K
So, definately the FM, or rather the engine modelling needs some polishing by HTC.

The La-7 in AH cannot get to 40k unassisted.  He didn't use a 127mph head wind, he used a 127mph wind that was heading straight up, lifting the La-7 with it.  I use this technique all the time for offline altitude tests so that I don't have to wait for the aircraft to climb to thw desired altitude.

I would suspect that the La-7 behaves weirdly because it doesn't even have a flight model up there as it can't get up there.  It might be using default performance figures.

I also recall that the C-47 behaves weirdly when you get it to 40,000 or 50,000ft.

Ohh.....you mean the "no skill needed, fly-by-wire F16 clone always running from somethin".....havent flown it for a year but im not suprised.
