Dingys altimeter needs recalibrating
« on: June 10, 2000, 09:54:00 PM »
Just for clarification, Dingy accused us of being strato buffs at 30k. This picture clearly shows one of my squadron and dingy going down, with jimbear getting the kill. My altimeter clearly shows 25k. Please, stop whining and recalibrate your altimeter. Or don't chase buffs that high. I get frustrated too. But when you do something dumb, just admit it. Don't blame it on something else. I have learned not to whine about F4U-1Cs. I just do my best to avoid them. (Is that a covert whine?    )
Anyway, just wanted to set the record straight. We were at 25k. Not 30k. Not that it really matters, but hey, it's proof for a squadmate. In AH, you win or you lose. Don't like the odds, the alt or the situation? Runaway! Someone please remind me of this next time I whine..hehe.

Sundog,

Im not the only one who saw ya at 30K, two other pilots did too.  Now as for your image, dunno what to say.  Maybe calibration is an issue since you all clearly left A1 and we left from a ground base or maybe you cut and pasted a snapshot from when you were at 25K (I got one of me at 25K which shows me on the ground....its easy to do).  All I know is that when i looked at the altimeter and saw 30K I spoke out on the radio.  The other pilots saw the same thing.  Call us all crazy if you want but I know what I saw.

Actually I will put the entire film up...we never went higher then 25k. Sounds like an issue for HTC then if our planes are showing 25k and yours are showing 30k.

BTW, planes at high alt always look higher then they are at a distance. But I will put the film up just so everyone knows for sure.

I could be a bug because last night when attacking the Knight HQ, we were moaned at for being at 30k, but we were 25k and falling rapidly (outta fuel     ).

Ahhhh...but your forget Cita....I was never glider!  I went on to put 4 more eggs elsewhere!

As the only B17 to bring 50% fuel, all I have to say is, "I told you so."

Sorry, I'm somewhat new here, is there a rule about flying at 30K? Also, aren't targets harder to hit from that alt? Just trying to figure what the bruhaha is all about. Not like you guys was shootin chutes or something, were ya?

Yeah Citabria, the glider formation - we all ran outta fuel by a36!  I was all setup for 31 then it changed to Knight HQ!    We dropped our eggs though, got two kills gliding before I was downed....
