Bomber Formation Idea
« on: January 28, 2003, 08:55:29 AM »
Perhaps this has been posted, but the 500 foot formation thing is out of control.

Perhaps there could be a "joining up" function wherein bombers exceeding say 7,500 for twins and 10K for four engine buffs would have the drones attach theselves to the formation?  That way a guy can Jabo in a buff if he wants to, but he only gets one payload to do it in.  The payload in a single B-26, Ju-88 etc. is plenty for jabo raids anyway.  No more 2k CV attacks.  No more GV spawn point vultching by Lancs and B17s.

Or, we might improve the aiming solution slightly but go back to single planes.  No laser guiding, but no more carpet bombing at 500 ft.

Just a thought.

aches high is a simulator of World war two.  I am not sure if they did carpet bomb or not but, i am sure that they did have to calibrate there scopes.  Now the question becomes do you want to be realistic simulator or a game that has world war 2 planes in it.  I choose realistic.  you may not but the whole point of AH is to be realistic as proof by the Reinactments of world war two battles.  I can understand the laserbombeing for newbies and for people who can't aim worth a darn.  I do not know if they carpet bombed back then or not,  but that is one part of simulation.  I like being able to go anywhere.  To attack in the most successful way i can.  I am sure they did carpet bomb places but not in high altitude bombers.  I for one like the idea of being able to fly old bombers anyway i like.  However non-militarily it is.

Of course they carpet bombed in WW2, they didnt have precision sights with computers showing a little line and circle on your HUD.

They had no other choice (except dive bombing of course).

The Norden bombsight had to be calibrated, the bombadier in the lead plane did it (not enough trained bombardier for each plane).
Probly why accuracy was so low, they dropped as leader did.

I wouldnt mind havind old bombsight with a random drift cone tho :D Im not holding my breath though.

Or maybe something like WW2OL and some random drift so we have to carpet bomb.
