P 47, for newbie
« on: January 27, 2003, 02:24:24 PM »
I just started playing and kind of like the P-47.  Only problem is that total lack of vision to the rear.  Someone got in behind me a couple times and I didn't know they were there until I was spinning out of control.

Anyone have tips for flying this thing so that you don't die in mass furball?

Flying under najdorf in game, would like some tips and training help.

.hps files - views

have you adjusted your head position(s) for maximum/comfortable visibility?  you won't be able to see your pure 6 view - it'll still be obscured to an extent, but less so in the bubbletop 47-d25/30.  also be sure to bank/roll at times and do a scan of your low 6 and 6.

you can adjust head positions (.hps files in the settings directory) by using the arrowpad and pg up/dw keys and pressing f10 to save the position(s) for each respective plane(s).

you might want to sort and copy/move the current .hps files to a safe place in case you mess up with your setting them so you can always start over from the deafult views.

having said this, attached is a zip file of my .hps files for each plane.  save and unzip into the AcesHigh/settings folder (being sure to do the above to backup the deafult views). these are based on an 8-way hat, with a j/s button (or kb key) to toggle between view sets 1 and 2 for a total of 17 views (16 plus the normal straight ahead view).

this should save you a lot of time.

To check my 6 from time to time, I generally just kick the rudders. If I want to be fancy, I'm doing a barrel roll.

Like Shane said, make sure u adjusted ur 6 view. Here's mine :

You also dont have to save all of your .hps files to a backup folder...just hit Home and you should get the default view back.  If you dont hit F10 your new view will still stay the same.

I prefer to adjust my 6 view for the LEFT side of the headrest...otherwise it's like walking around all day with your dugan hangin' on the wrong side of the trousers...:D

You might also try adjusting your forward view with the arrow/page keys to look around the nose of the plane. Don't save the view but when your ready to go back to normal just look away (move hat switch) and when you return to default forward view its back to "normal".  This helps me when I'm cruising in auto pilot but want a better view in front to some extent.

Any of you guys remember when you could get rid of all the artwork for the cockpit in AW3 and fly around in the "clear bubble" with a boresight? That was a bunch of hooey :p

Magoo, tip of the day by Frenchy.

Most of the guys will "break away" with a left turn. Set your view on the right, break right.

Makes you less predictable.
